"Chris, dinner's almost ready. You might want to wash up." Adrianna said, while drying her hands on a dish rag.

"Do I hafta?" He asked.

"Yes, now get up here and wash your hands." She picked him up and set him by the sink. "Is JC upstairs?" He nodded with a frown on his face. "Do it." She started up the stairs and opened the door to JC's room. She looked around and finally found him in his bed under the covers. "Sweetie, are you OK?" She went to sit on the edge of his bed.

"I don't feel good." Adrianna frowned and put her palm to his forehead and then to the sides of his face.

"You feel kinda hot. What are you doing with all these blankets?" She started to pull them down.

"No, I'm cold." He tried to jerk them back up.

"You're cold?" She sighed and stood up. "I'll be right back." Adrianna returned with a thermometer and placed it in his mouth. She timed out three minutes and pulled it out of his mouth. When she saw what it read, her mouth dropped. "Joey! JOEY!" She yelled. She looked down and noticed that JC had pulled his blankets back up. "Keep them down." She pushed the covers down, leaving only the sheet. "JOEY!"

"No, I'm cold." He repeated and grabbed them back as Joey walked in the room.

"JC, stop it and keep them down."

"What's going on?"

"102.5!" She waved the thermometer in her hand and saw him pull the blankets back up. "Joey! 102.5, and he's cold!" She pulled them back down. "I told you to stop that."

"Are you sure?" Joey said.

"Am I sure? Of course, I'm sure!"

"OK, OK, calm down. Go downstairs and tell Justin what's going on and that we're taking JC to the hospital and go start the car, I'll be out in a second." Joey said, pushing her out of the room. She pounded down the stairs and into the living room.

"Justin," Justin paused his video game and looked up. "JC's got a really bad fever; Joey and I are taking him to the hospital. Watch Chris." Justin nodded.

"Is he OK?"

"I hope he will be." She left the house and went out to the car. Joey came down the stairs a few seconds later, carrying a shivering JC.

"Joey, when will you be back?" Justin asked, before he left.

"I dunno, I'll call you when I find out what's going on."

"OK." With that, Joey went outside and ran over to the passenger side of the car and lied JC on Adrianna's lap and ran over to the other side and climbed in. He quickly barreled out of the driveway.
Joey paced the waiting room, running a hand through his hair.

"Joey, you're the one who told me to be calm and look at you." Adrianna said from her seat.

"How could I let this happen? I'm so dead with Lance."

"Have you called Lance yet?"

"No, not yet. I don't want him to know just now."

"It wasn't your fault, honey. It would have happened even if Lance had been there." The doctor walked out. "How is he?"

"Well, your son-"

"Brother." Joey quickly corrected. "He's my brother."

"Sorry, your brother seems to have a bad case of pneumonia. He should be fine in a couple weeks as long as he stays here for observation for a few days." Joey breathed a sigh of relief.

"Can we see him?"

"You'll have to fill out some forms first."

"I'll get 'em Joey, you go on ahead."

"Just let me do it, I'll be back in a little." She followed the doctor into the room and saw JC lying in the bed, asleep.

"Oh sweetie." She brushed some of his hair out of his face.
The phone rang and Justin was over there in a flash to pick it up. "Joey? Adrianna?" He said the second it hit his ear.

"No, it's Lance. Why would they be calling you? They're supposed to be there."

"Yeah, I know but..." He searched his brain for a lie.

"Justin, where are they?"

"It's OK, I can handle everything here."

"I don't care, they are supposed to be there. Where are they?"

"Are you sure you don't know?"

"Justin Randall Carter, if you don't tell me where they are then you are going to be grounded."

"OK, they're...they're at the hospital." There was a moment of silence. "Lance?"

"Why are they at the hospital?"

"JC got sick."

"Anna just said that he had a high fever."

"How high?"

"I don't know, but I'm guessing pretty high if it ended him up in the hospital."

"Do you know which one?"

"I think Mercy."

"All right, stay there. I'm coming home to pick you and Chris up and then we're going there so be ready."

"But-" There was a click. "Go get your shoes on." He told Chris. "We're going to the hospital."
"How's he doing?" Joey asked as he entered the room.

"He's still sleeping. His fever hasn't broken yet, I guess that's why he has to stay here." Adrianna wiped her eyes.

"Have you been crying?"

"Yeah. I just...I can't believe that any of this happened. And it hurts more that it's him."

"I know, but you heard the doctor. He said that he'd be fine in a couple weeks. Everything's going to be OK."

"Is he OK?" Lance walked into the room with Justin and Chris behind him.

"Lance? What are you doing here?"

"Well, my honest brother told me what was going on. And I'm wondering why you didn't call me."

"I'm sorry, I just thought maybe you'd blame me for it."

"Why would I blame you? It's not your fault. Just tell me how he is."

"He's got pneumonia. Doctor says he'll have to stay here for a few days." Joey explained. Lance walked over to the bed where he was still sleeping.
