JC was sitting by himself in the back of the bus. He has his notebook in hand with all his plans in it. He was trying to plot everything perfectly. For it to work and him not to get caught, it all had to go flawlessly.
"Hey babe, whatcha doing?" He quickly covered his work at the sound of Cassandra's voice.
"Nothing, just writing a little love poem for my one and only." He lied.
"Aw, you're so sweet. Can I read it?"
"No, not till it's done, pumpkin."
"OK, I'll just lie here and give you inspiration." She rested her head on his lap and stretched out her body.
"You're such a great muse." He began to sketch in great detail what he hoped to see that night.
"Why can't I look at it?"
"It was supposed to have been a surprise, but I guess now ... no you can't see."
"You are such a tease." She hit him playfully in the stomach.
"I know, you'll just have to wait." He leaned down and kissed her softly on the lips.
"Baby, you're so good to me."
"Only cause you give me a reason to be."
"I'm serious, sometimes I think you deserve someone better than me."
"Sweetie, sit up." She did as she was told and he placed the notebook down. He took her hands in his. "Don't ever talk like that." He kissed each of them. "It's always been you."
"See, it's stuff like that."
"Shhh." He placed a finger to her lips. "Don't talk, you'll ruin this beautiful moment I'm having with my beloved." He slowly removed his finger and ran it up and down her cheek. She closed her eyes and relaxed at his touch.
"Ah, ah, ah." He slowly moved in and silenced her with a kiss. He pulled away leaving her wanting more.
"Don't say that, it was all you, sunshine. Now, that I've been freshly enlightened, let me write more of my darling."
"You're too much."
"No, that's where you're mistaken. Honey, you're all I could have ever asked for." At his words, she turned and gazed out the window.
"It's really coming down out there." He turned around to see what she was talking about.
"You're absolutely right, sugar. Kinda reminds me of the time we were in the rain."
"Ah, I remember that. We were in the park..."
"Shhh, don't speak." He put his arm around her and placed his chin on the top of her head. "I love the rain. It's so romantic."
"Just like you, and I love you." JC had to roll his eyes at this comment. How could she possibly love him?
"Baby, I just wanna stay like this forever."
"Until my life is through."
"Exactly." He ran his hand down her arm. When he met her hand he intertwined their fingers together. He brought her hand closer to his lips. His thumb slowly massaging her hand as he placed a series of small little kisses on the surface. Suddenly they both noticed the cease of the bus. They were soon joined by Justin. Cassandra immediatly jumped away from JC.
"Hey, the bus stopped."
"Don't worry, baby, I'm sure what's ever wrong they'll fix it."
"I'm not worried."
"Yes, you are Cass, you're jumping out of your skin." Justin observed.
"I'm glad you can make jokes."
"He wasn't making jokes, sweetheart, he was just trying to lighten the mood."
"Exactly, sweetheart." He mocked. JC just glared at him. "It's just a busted carb."
"Well, that's easy to fix right?"
"I'm afraid not. A couple hours, maybe overnight."
"Well, what will we do? I'm not sleeping on the side of the road."
"Relax, sugar, everything will be OK."
"As long as you're here?"
"As long as I'm here. I'll never leave your side." He wrapped his arms around her.
"OK, this is what's going on." Chris walked in to see the clingy Cassandra. "What's her fix?"
"She's scared." Justin said.
"Scared of what?"
"Nothing, just tell us what's going on." She snapped.
"OK, well, the bus is broken. We won't be able to get a new carb until morning. We saw a motel down the road a couple of miles, we're gonna walk and stay there tonight."
"We're gonna leave now."
"OK, let me just get my stuff."
"Hurry up!" He shouted before Justin and him departed.
"He yelled at me."
"Don't worry, baby, I won't let him talk to you like that ever again." She walked over and picked up her bag.
"I'll be waiting up there."
"OK." He grabbed his notebook and his bag. "I'll have to change my plans, but still... tonight."
JC and Cassandra walked into their room together.
"Not very sanitary." She noticed as she climbed on the bed. JC put his bag down and walked over to the table that overlooked the lake and the woods. He opened up his notebook and got to work on a new plan. "Baby?" He turned around at Cassandra's call.
"That was quite a long walk, my feet hurt."
"Would you like me to rub them?"
"If it wouldn't be too much trouble."
"Not at all, at least not for you." He walked over to her and sat by her feet and the foot of the bed. He began to kneed her foot with his thumbs. "Later, baby, I want to go for a walk."
"That sounds lovely, when the rain has stopped."
"I'd like to go by myself, if that's all right."
"Certainly, but why?"
"I need to do some thinking about us, some us thinking."
"Is something wrong?"
"No, everything is perfect."
"Are you sure? You've been acting kinda wierd tonight."
"I've just realized how much I love you."
"I love you too." There it was again that blatant lie.
"I'm gonna go now."
"OK, I'll see you later."
"Sweetie, don't wait up." He kissed her on top of her forehead before making his departure. He walked outside and noticed Joey over by the pop machine getting something to drink.
"Hey, what are you doing out here?" Joey asked.
"Just scoping the joint."
"Oh." He opened his root beer.
"I was thinking, my arms feel a little tense, ya know rubbing Cassie's feet, women. Do you think maybe a dip in the lake would help?"
"Would you go with me?"
"Always take a buddy."
"OK, do we need towels?"
"Nah, towels are for girls, let's be men."
"All right then, onto the lake."
"I hope it's not cold."
"Well, let's see, mid February, 11:00 at night, and a storm just passed through. Oh yeah, it's gonna be cold."
"That's too bad, for you." They made their way down to the lake.
"Nothing, it's too bad it's gonna be cold." They walked the rest of the way in silence until the reached the dock.
"There ya go buddy, take your dip." JC jumped in and Joey remained on the dock.
"You aren't going with me?"
"I wasn't planning on it."
"Come on, the water's fine."
"OK, I guess I can for a little while." He placed his can down on the dock and slowly lowered himself into the cold water. As soon as he hit the water JC splashed him.
"Isn't this fun." He splashed him again.
"I guess." He did the same.
"Oh, try and catch me." JC went under the water and didn't appear for a while.
"JC, where are you?" He came up from behind him and wrapped his arms around Joey's neck. "What is with you?"
"Nothing, I'm finally thinking clearly." He tightened his grip.
"OK, buddy, I think we can stop playing. I want to get back inside." He could hardly talk now, he was becoming short of breath.
"Cause..." He had to pause, he was growing light-headed. "I told Lance, I would only be gone a couple of min..." He body became limp of his lack of air. He slowly doubled over. JC released his now deceased friend and watched him gradually sink to the bottom of the lake. He swam over to the dock and pulled himself up on the dock. He picked up the awaiting root beer can and finished it off. He crushed the can in his hand before tossing it into the woods. He began to walk back to the hotel.
"One down, four to go."
