Courtney and Elyse's apartment: 11:00 PM
Courtney was on the couch, wash cloth on her head, a Pepsi on the table, and a baseball game on TV. The phone rang.
"Ugh...what do you want!?"
"Well, excuse me!"
"The one and only."
"Sorry, I just, I have a head ache and people have been calling me all day, I have the ring of the telephone stuck in my head."
"Who would call you?"
"Funny, I'll tell you who, you, my sister, Elyse's parents, some guy named Bruce, probably one of Elyse's and you again. Oh by the way, she never went to her parents' house, she went to New York."
"You don't say."
"Yeah, she went to my sister's dorm at college and then stupid her let her leave again. Now I have no idea where she is."
"She's with us."
"Quit kidding, I'm getting sick of the jokes."
"Seriously, she's with us. She'll be coming on tour with us. You know, we're gonna be here New York City for a couple more days, why don't you come up and spend some time with us, maybe apologize to Elyse."
"Yeah sure, I'll come apologize, not like she'll forgive me or anything. But I'm not coming to see you, get that through your head before you get any ideas."
"Oh, don't worry, it's passed."
"So we'll see you at about what, 4:30, 5:00."
"You want me to leave now?"
"First of all, I'm tired and second, I don't have a car."
"So take a cab."
"You think that I'm actually going to ask a cab driver to take me all the way up to New York?"
"Joey, I don't want to do that."
"Fine, I'll send you a private jet."
"You don't have a private jet."
"Yeah you're right, I'm just showing off."
"All right, I know a way to get there. I'll leave in the morning."
"No, leave now."
"Come now, come now, I want to see you again."
"Fine, but you better be waiting down in the lobby of the hotel when I get there. Where are you staying?"
"The Plaza Hotel."
"Ok, see you in about six hours." She sighed, hanging up. "Oh, I have to pack." She went to her room and grabbed her suitcase. She opened the closet. "What to bring? What to bring? Heck I'll just take it all." She grabbed every article of clothing she could fit in her suitcase along with her necessities, toothbrush, hairbrush, ect. Looking down at her ensemble, she noticed she was wearing her pajamas. "Ah well, all I need is a shirt and pants." She grabbed her shoes and jogged out the door.
She locked up the apartment and went down and got a taxi.
"Take me to the Palm Desert apartment complex." When the driver pulled up in front of the building, she quickly paid him and went up and knocked on the door of number 5C.
"Courtney, what are you doing here?" A tired Kendra opened her door.
"Look, I need to borrow your car."
"I can't explain now, but can I please?"
"When will you get it back to me, I need it on Monday for work."
"So walk, get some exercise."
"Fine." She grabbed her car keys from the desk and handed them to her. "But if anything happens to the Jag..."
"Nothing will happen to the Jag, don't you trust me?"
"Of course. Now let me get some sleep." She shut the door.
The Plaza Hotel: 4:45 AM
Courtney walked into the lobby, her head down, suitcase dragging. An arm reached out and grabbed her. She looked up at the person the arm belonged to and noticed that it was Joey in the same hat and sunglasses he wore the other day.
"Do I have to get up and do anything tomorrow?"
"You mean today? No, but I do, I've been waiting forever, and if I fall on my butt later, I'll blame it on you."
"You're the one who wanted me to come now."
"Come on, let's get to bed." They walked up to his room and opened the door. The small light flooded into the room and Courtney noticed Elyse and JC in the same bed.
"Oh my gosh, she's at it again."
"Well, actually you and I have to share a bed too, see no one expected you guys to come so we didn't have enough rooms."
"Nuh huh, I'll sleep on the floor."
"Whatever just be quiet." He whispered. He shut the door.
"Where'd you go?" It was pitch black.
"I'm right here." He got in his bed and threw a pillow and a bed sheet at her.
"Gee thanks." She put her head on the pillow and was asleep within minutes.
Two hours later
Courtney woke up to the sound of an alarm clock and something in her mouth, but was pulled out in a second.
"Ew, did someone spill something down here." She heard JC say. She popped up with all her hair in front of her face.
"What time is it?"
"Ugh." She lied back down.
"Not so great for me either." Joey complained as he got out of bed.
"Oh a bed!" She got off the floor and got into Joey's bed. Elyse yawned and sat up.
"What are you doing here?" She looked angrily at Courtney.
"I was invited."
"Leave, I don't want you here."
"Well, it doesn't really matter to you, does it?"
"Girls, girls, I think it's time you made up, because you will be spending a lot of time together." Joey put his hands up.
"What does that mean? I'm going back to Boston as soon as you're gone."
"That's where you're wrong." Joey smiled, devilishly.
"I am not coming with you, I don't care what you say." There was a knock on the door.
"Come in!" JC called. The other three walked in.
"See we parade around in groups like this so get used to it."
"Hi, I don't know your names, but it doesn't matter cause I'll be leaving soon." Courtney sat up and rubbed her eyes.
"No, you're not, I will tie you to a chair if I have to."
"That's not very nice."
"Anyway, I'm Lance."
"Hi Lance are you gay?"
"I just know a lot of gay guys and let me tell you, you fit the bill to a T."
"Here she goes again, she asks every guy that."
"Not every guy, just the ones that are fruity."
"Thanks." Lance said, sarcastically. "There's something I gotta do."
"Really what's his name?" Courtney asked.
"Joey, she's leaving." He left the room.
"Well that's three votes, I want me to leave, he wants me to leave and Elyse wants me to leave, so far it's three to one, what do you think, Curly you can vote too."
"It's Justin, and I like you, I vote you stay."
"Ha ha ha, three to two." Joey laughed.
"Hey there are still two other people in this room, and I know JC will vote me gone because, well, never disagree with Elyse."
"I can speak my own mind." JC said.
"Oh yeah try that one, tiger. Now, I have to get on shorty over there." She pointed to Chris. "Look at you, hot stuff, I bet the girls are all over you cause you remind them of pancakes."
"Yeah, you know a short stack, a little tasty too." She winked at him.
"Oh, I think she likes you, Chris." Justin pointed out.
"Man, I should've called him gay too. Wait the score is four to three, I win, woo hoo!"
"Wait a minute." JC said. "I vote she stays, see I can do it!"
"No!" Elyse hit him with a pillow.
"Ha, I win, you stay. And you know what else Courtney?"
"What are you going to do now that will pile on top of this wonderful news."
"Tonight, after the concert, you and I are going clubbing."
"Yep, we'll go out, just the two of us and I will show you a good time."
"Thanks but by the time you get back I'll probably be in bed, hiding from you."
"I'll put you on a leash and drag you there if you don't come."
"Fine I'll come, go to a club for the first time ever, woo hoo." She was unamused.
Plaza Hotel: 11:30 PM: Same day
"We're going to go now." Elyse announced, putting on her coat.
"You know you two, just because you're pretending to be a couple doesn't mean you have to act like one." Joey told them.
"Who's pretending?" JC asked, walking out the door, holding her hand. Joey laughed.
"Hey Courtney, are you ready?" Joey knocked on the bathroom door.
"As ready as I'll ever be." She stepped out.
"Not quite, what are you wearing?"
"Clothes, I don't understand the question."
"You're wearing a sweater."
"Yeah, don't you like it, it's cashmere."
"Sure I like it, but not to a club, I'm suppose to show you how to have a good time, don't you have anything else?"
"Just my normal 'cover everything' clothes."
"So go borrow something of Elyse's."
"No, have you seen what she wears? She's better off going out naked." He smiled. "Wipe that dopey grin off your face." He walked over to Elyse's suitcase and opened it up.
"Oh now look at these leather pants, they're just screaming 'Wear me Courtney! Wear me!' Oh and look at this shirt, it's purple."
"Yeah, come on just put it on." He shoved the outfit in her hands. She reluctantly went back into the bathroom. When she came out she immediately started to complain.
"I think this shirt is too small."
"No, that's how it's suppose to be."
"Are you sure? You're not just playing me for a fool?"
"I promise. You look perfect. Oh and..." He pulled her ribbon from her hair so that it fell on her back.
"Ok, let's go get this over with." He grabbed her hand, but she pulled away. "Let's go." She walked ahead of him. When they were outside, she took his hat. "And ditch the shades too, you are not going to see any fans out here." He took them off.
"Yeah, but let me tell you, your disguise isn't that good, I can still tell you are." He sighed and took her to the club.
"You want to dance or get a drink first?"
"Dance? I think I'll go with the drink." They went to the bar.
"Get me a beer." Joey said to the bartender.
"I'll have a Pepsi please."
"Pepsi? You sound like that little girl on the commercials, Pepsi please." He mocked her.
"I didn't come out here, dressed like this to be mocked. Are you mocking me? Cause I could go home and be mocked." Their drinks were put in front of them. "I'm going to use the ladies room, but when I get back, no more mocking, you hear me!"
"Loud and clear."
"Good." She left the area.
"Can you take this back and possibly get me something that looks like Pepsi but has alcohol in it?"
"I could put some in there."
"Ok." He quickly put some beer in her pepsi and placed it back down.
"Thank you." Courtney came back.
"So what do you do at these places anyway, I mean do you just stand here?"
"Well you dance and meet new people, you drink, you party."
"I don't dance and I don't drink and I think I know all the people I need to know." She took a drink of her pepsi. "This tastes weird. Maybe I should have it sent back."
"No, they'll just charge you extra because you'll get one the exact same. That's how they make Pepsi here in New York."
"I've been to New York, it's not like this, plus Pepsi is made in New York."
"But you've never been to a club, it's club pepsi."
"You wouldn't lie to me, so I have to believe you."
"Of course not, I would never lie. So, you wanna dance?"
"I told you I don't dance."
"So this is your night, you know, try new things."
"Like club pepsi?"
"But club pepsi tastes like crap."
"Well, you just have to get used to it, you know, drink it and drink it."
An hour later
"You know, you're right once you get used to this stuff, it ain't so bad."
"I told you." She finished off her sixth glass.
"I need another one of those."
"I'll get it." He got up and went to the bar again.
"You again?" The bartender asked. "You came here like a minute ago."
"She's fast, she can drink like a whole bunch."
"So why drink it with pepsi, it's gross."
"All right then just get me a beer, she's so drunk she won't know the difference." He grabbed the drink and brought it back to her.
"You know this stuff is changing colors, or it could be the lights."
"The lights? It's practically dark in here."
"That's the trick with lights, you never know when they're on or off, it's all the same." She downed the beer. "That was quick. Fetch me some more."
"I think you've had enough, we better go back."
"No! I'll tell you when I've had enough, this is suppose to be try new things night and I want to have fun, I thought this was our number one goal here, woo hoo!"
"Yeah but I think we need to go."
"Fine, but you're no fun." He got out of his chair and helped her up. "Whoa, stop the room, I want to get off." He guided her out to the parking lot and to a cab.
"Right." He started towards the hotel.
"You know what? I'm just going to rest my eyes for a minute, since this ride is so peaceful. So I'm gonna..." She fell over in his lap.
When they got there, Joey paid the man and carried her in the hotel. He went up to the room, but remember that JC and Elyse had gone out and he had forgotten his key. He went to the next room and kicked the door. The 'knock' woke Courtney up.
"Wha?" Lance opened the door. "Oh...Lancetopher." She patted his cheek. "I have a story to tell you."
"What the heck happened?"
"Well, I kind of got her drunk." He set her down on the couch next to Justin.
"How do you get her drunk? Wouldn't she know if she was drinking alcohol?"
"I kind of had the bartender put some beer in her pepsi, it tasted weird, so I told her it was club pepsi."
"You told her it was what?"
"She said I wouldn't lie so it must be true."
"Hey!" Courtney yelled. "Ima tell you about this guy when I was little that I liked, his name was N 8."
"N 8?" Justin questioned.
"Nate, duh! Anyway, he had this hair, this curly blonde hair, it was like a fro, you could stick a stick in it and it would be like gone. And he had these blue eyes, they were like beautiful, and then the nose, it was like flat, but it wasn't flat because a nose can't be flat but it was, kind of like Justin's. And he had this killer smile, he was dreamy." She paused. "Oh and Lancetopher, my story, I met the perfect guy for you, his name was Joey, he was tall, and he had this reddish brown hair, but I wouldn't want to go out with him again." She pointed to Joey. "Because well he's gay, he wasn't very fun so you and me Chris." She patted Justin's head.
"Did I mention I like this girl?" Justin shot his killer smile at her.
"You're cute." The door opened and JC and Elyse walked in.
"We're back." Elyse told them, just so they'd know. They were getting ready to leave again, when Courtney's voice interrupted them.
"Oh look who's here to join the party, I don't remember your names right now but if you give me like half an hour, I should remember."
"Oh my gosh, she's drunk." Elyse said, walking back in. "Who got her like this, I congratulate you, but it's wrong. I've been trying to do this for a long time."
"I did." Joey confessed, expecting praise.
"She has never, ever even touched an ounce of alcohol, you have ruined her and you said you cared."
"I was showing her how to have a good time, isn't that what you wanted?"
"Courtney is a fun person, sometimes, and now, she's ruined all because of you. I mean you should know that once you've gotten drunk once, you have to do it again. Meaning, she's going to."
"But you said..."
"I don't care what I said, just because I say things doesn't mean I mean them. Now, I'm going back to our room and I'm taking Courtney with me and locking you out. Come on Courtney."
"Ok, hey know what I realized, that on the Partridge Family, the family had that beautiful tour bus, but they never went on any tour, they used it to drive around town, just buy a freaking car, I mean hello, there's like six of them, get a station wagon."
"Courtney come on, it's time for bed." Elyse motioned her to the door.
"Wait I'm not finished, Bewitched, now there's a screwed up show. I mean Darren, you think about it, he was an idiot. Justin, say I was a witch and you and me got married, ya know cause you're cute, and would you want me to use my powers to pop up some caramel apples or would you want me to act mortal?"
"I'd have to go with the caramel apples."
"Don't encourage her Justin, come on Courtney." She grabbed her arms.
"All right, fine." Elyse took her friend into the bedroom with JC following and shut the door behind them.
"I've read somewhere that cold showers help a person sober up." Elyse said, leading Courtney to the bathroom.
"Ok, let's dump her in." He replied, turning on the water. She turned it off.
"Wait, those are my clothes, she's not going to get my clothes wet."
"Then what are we supposed to do?"
"Strip her, JC." She left to go make coffee.
"But..." He looked at her, asleep in the tub. "Ah man."
Elyse poured a cup of coffee for Courtney and set it on the table as JC walked out.
"I did it, it was hard but I did it."
"Good, I know it must have been unpleasant."
"Actually," She glared him. "it was very unpleasant."
"That's better. Did you turn the water on?"
"Well I think she's had enough, turn it off."
"But I just..."
"Ok, what should I dress her in?"
"I would say her pajamas, but I know that she'd kill me if she knew I went through her suitcase, so just put her in your clothes."
"Yeah, she's already ruined one of my outfits I'm not letting her ruin another."
"Ok." He grabbed a pair of pants and a t-shirt out of his bag and went back into the bathroom.
Later that night
"What are you going to do tonight while we're gone?" Justin asked.
"Hmm, probably just read my book." Courtney answered.
"Pride and Prejudice."
"Have you ever read it?"
"Then don't judge it."
"Sorry." He got up and put his coat on. "Just come with us."
"No, I don't wanna come."
"But you'll get to watch us perform."
"Let me think about my options here, A, go to a hot auditorium with screaming, pre-adolescent girls and watch five idiots run around a stage. Or B, stay in this nice peaceful hotel room, reading my book and getting away from you guys. I don't know, B's looking pretty good to me."
"Fine, you're going to miss me."
"I find that hard to believe. But I promise when you get back, we'll do something, you and me."
"Ok." He left the room.
Four hours later
"Well, I finished that book. Now what?" She looked around the room, for something to do, her eyes falling upon the phone. "Rachel." She picked up the receiver and dialed her sister's number.
"Hi." Courtney said.
"Oh hi Courtney"
"I called to let you know that I'm in town, in Nsync's hotel room, will you come over? They're all at the concert."
"Well, I'm working on homework..."
"Bring it over, I can help you, just like old times."
"Ok, which hotel?"
"Ok, I'll be right over."
"Bye." She hung up. "Now, what to do while I wait. Write a poem!" She grabbed the hotel stationary and began to write. "Express my true feelings to Joey, then maybe he'll get a clue." Courtney went down and sat in the lobby to wait for Rachel. She had just finished writing her poem when Rachel walked in the door.
"Hi!" They hugged. "So..."
"Let's go upstairs now."
"Ok." They took the elevator back up and went back in the hotel room. Courtney lied down on the bed while Rachel set up her stuff on the table.
"So, what kind of homework do you have?"
"An essay on Mozart that I've been trying to do for weeks now."
"Mozart? I'm a huge fan of his music."
"I know, that way it'd be really easy for you to just write it for me."
"But what would you learn?"
"I'd learn that my sister would do anything for me."
"You're just lucky that I love homework." She grabbed her pencil and sat down. "You know it seems like I had just way too much homework in college, I had mine, I had Elyse's, I even had yours and now I'm out of school and yet I'm still doing it."
"That's just cause you love it so much." Rachel got up and went to sit on the bed and watched TV. There was nothing on so she turned to Courtney. "Can I have a piece of paper?"
"Sure." She ripped one off and handed it to her. Rachel grabbed a pen off the desk and began to doodle.
The room got louder as the men of Nsync and Elyse walked in. Courtney looked up from the table.
"Hi guys." Then she went back to work.
"Rache!" Elyse exclaimed.
"Hi Elyse." She groaned.
"What are you doing here?"
"I was invited."
"I told you, you'd get bored." Justin said, sitting down next to Rachel on the bed. "Heaven must be on the search cause there's an angel missing." He flashed a cheesy grin. Rachel gave him a nervous smile.
"Hey Joey." Courtney called from the table. "I wrote you a poem."
"Yeah it expresses my true feelings for you."
"Then it must be a love poem." She handed it him. "The many depths of Joey, there aren't any." He paused. "I don't think I want to read this anymore."
"No, no, no, go ahead. Loud and clear, I want everyone to hear this."
"His charming character and boyish good looks, these are the things that make girls swoon, but when will they see that this guy's voice, no doubt can't carry a tune." They all laughed.
"There's more, finish it Joey."
"And that grin that always seems to curl, I have to admit, it'd attract any girl. Though, when you come down to it, deep down inside, you'll notice his heart will never match his pride. When it comes to troubled situations, he's not a good thinker, and when it's clubbing, boy, is he a drinker. The clumsy guy that I can't stand, will never be the best in this band." Everyone continued to laugh.
"You know, you guys are all disturbing me, so I'm going to go out in the hall and finish my homework."
"Whose homework?" Rachel asked.
"Sorry, your homework." She went into the hall.
"Oh guys, I want to introduce you to Courtney's sister, Rachel. And Rachel, these are the guys..." Elyse said.
"I know who they are, you don't know how hard it is to live with an Nsync fan and not hear about them every day." She stood up. "This has been great, but now that you are back, I guess I can leave. Bye." She headed for the door.
"Oh Rachel, Courtney and I are friends again."
"Good, I'm happy." Rachel disappeared into the hall and closed the door behind her. "Courtney, I'm going to leave now."
"All right. Here." Courtney gathered up all of Rachel's stuff and handed it all to her.
"Wait, I wanted to ask you something."
"Sit." Rachel sat down next to her. "As you know, I had discussed moving up here, after I graduated, with you, and I didn't then, because I had Elyse on my back, so for her, I stayed in Boston and bought an apartment with her."
"Now that Elyse has moved out, I thought maybe I could move here, to New York."
"Yep, tomorrow, I'll drive Kendra's car back to Boston and I'll start planning for the move. I can get a job here, get an apartment and start my life all over."
"Great, and if you want, you can stay with me until you find a place."
"But I was talking with Elyse earlier and she said that when she went to see you, you said you couldn't do that."
"Yeah I said that to her, I didn't want her to live with me."
"Oh I see, well then that's great."
"Ok, so I'll see you...?"
"Probably in a few days, maybe a week."
"All right, I can't wait." She gave her a quick hug and went down the hall. Courtney stood up and was about to go in when JC came out.
"Hey, I was just coming to talk to you."
"Well, I left something out in the bus and I need someone to go with me."
"Because it's dark out."
"Aw, are you scared?"
"Yeah and none of the other guys will go with me."
"Ok." He started to walk to the elevator with Courtney following. "Where's your disguise?"
"I don't need one now." They went outside the back entrance and JC cautiously looked around the corner to see if there were any fans.
"I thought you said you didn't need a disguise."
"I don't, come on." He grabbed her hand and ran quickly to the bus and opened the door.
"Don't you guys lock this thing?"
"Yeah but I guess today I got lucky." They went on and they just stood there.
"Aren't you going to get it?"
"It's in the bathroom, will you get it?"
"Ok, what exactly am I looking for?"
"Shampoo." She walked in and looked.
"There's no shampoo in he..." She turned around to see the door slam. She sighed and grabbed the doorknob to discover it wouldn't open. "JC, the door won't open, why won't it open?" She yelled.
"Haven't you ever heard of revenge?"
