"So, what are we doing here again?" Cody asked.
"I got in a fight with Jessie this morning, so she called me and apologized and invited us to lunch as sort of a peace offering."
"Yeah, and she even has a date."
"A date, wow." 'Must be Lance'. He thought to himself.
"Here they come.." She trailed off as she noticed the man accompanying her was Chris.
'What the? I thought Lance was gonna...man who is that guy?'
"Hey, guys, this is Chris." Jessie pretended as if Micky and Chris had never met before. "And Chris this is Cody and Mikayla."
"Nice to meet you." He greeted the two of them.
-=-Later during lunch-=-
Chris and Jessie had purposly ignored the other two, in order to make them jealous. Chris would occasionally glance over at them to see if they were getting bored. Their faces were expressionless.
He nodded at Jessie, as she smiled.
"Will you guys excuse us for a second?"
"Would it matter?" Mikayla shrugged. The two got up from the table and over to the railing which was set above the first floor of the mall, but still in visible distance for the couple.
"I think it's working." Chris started.
"So should we do it?"
"We both know that this is an act."
"Right." They both drew in a deep breath and slowly leaned foreward to kiss.
Mikayla watched as they left the table, following their path to see them looking down on the first floor. She wished that she had dumped Cody, then that could be her.
She looked on as they exchanged a few words and then they kissed. She felt like her heart had been ripped out and put in a glass. She got up and ran off, tears threatening to fall.
Jessie pulled away just in time to see Mikayla exit.
"I'll be right back." She told Chris, running after her friend. She followed her, Mikayla still unaware that Jessie was behind her, until she reached the restrooms and dropped down in front of the Ladies' room door. "Mick, I know that was something you didn't want to see."
"What does that mean? You knew I liked Chris and you went ahead and kissed him anyway."
"Well you knew I liked Cody." She knelt beside her crying friend. "I don't really like Chris, he likes you. I was giving him a hand."
"Shut up and leave me alone." She pushed her hand off her shoulder and left her, shocked, sitting on the floor.
Mikayla opened a hotel room door, the next day, seeing as it was unlocked.
"Chris, I need to talk to yo..." She looked around the room to see Justin, Joey and JC staring up at her. "Ok, wrong room." She started to leave.
"Wait, Chris isn't here, he went out with Jessie a few hours ago."
"They aren't back yet?"
"Ugh! I'm gonna kill him!" She ran out of the room, jogging down the hall, bumping into something hard. "Watch where you're going, jerk."
"Well, excuse me." She looked up and saw Lance.
"Where ya going?"
"I don't know, I'm pissed off right now."
"Cuz the backstabbing idiot who I thought was my friend is out with Chris."
"There's only one backstabbing idiot in my world. Except for Chris that is."
"I can't believe that."
"She isn't suppose to be going out with him."
"She's suppose to be going out with me."
"With you? I was thinking Cody."
"Cody? I thought you guys were, ya know, together."
"Well, technically, no, I'm breaking things off once and for all with Cody later tonight." She paused. "You like Jess?"
"Well you obviously do, since you think she should be with you."
"Yeah, and I talked to Cody, he said he pretend to still love you so I could have a chance with Jessie." He covered his mouth as soon as he said it.
"Pretending?" She repeated.
"Did I say pretending? I meant, try and work things out with you."
"Why wait for tonight, I'm gonna go break up with him right now!"
"Don't go so hard on him."
"What? I thought you were mad at Cody."
"Well, yeah, but he's my cousin."
"So you don't want me to break up with him."
"You can break up with him, just don't go too hard on him."
"Oh, I get it."
"Hey, you doing anything right now?"
"You wanna go get some coffee or something?"
"Coffee sounds good."
"Ok." They went to the nearest coffee shop and talked.
"What am I going to do, Jess? She's so mad at me." Chris asked her as she sipped her soda.
"How should I know, she's just as pissed at me as she is at you."
"I can't believe this, I thought she was starting to fall in love with me."
"She was, Chris, and I bet she still is."
"But she thinks you and I are going out."
"No she doesn't, but can you blame her? She saw us kiss, even though it didn't mean anything."
"I guess you're right. Look, we've talked about me, what about you? What's going on with you?"
"Me? What do you mean, me?"
"Like, how are you doing in the love department?"
"I thought we were clear on this that I liked Cody."
"Oh yeah." He nodded.
"What?" She noticed a suspicious twinge to his tone.
"Well, I was kind of hoping that you had something for Lance."
"Lance? You're kidding me right?"
"Wrong, he really likes you." She nodded as he paused. "But don't tell him I told you that, cuz he'll kill me."
"All right, I won't."
"And that guy.." Mikayla burst out into laughter again as her and Lance walked back into the hotel room in which everyone was seated. They sat down next to each other on the couch, Mikayla leaning against Lance's shoulder, her hand on his thigh. "Oh hi guys." She greeted. Chris looked at them, curious.
"Man, we have got some story to tell you." Lance started. "Go ahead sweets, you can tell it."
'He called her 'sweets'.' Chris thought to himself. 'Does this mean?'
"OK, we were having coffee and this old guy walked in, wearing a hat. The waitress got him his coffee and when she came back.." She laughed. "Lance tripped her and she spilled the coffee all over the man."
"That doesn't sound like Lance." Justin inputed.
"Well it was hilarious. I dared him too, I didn't expect him to actually do it. Anyway, the woman apologized as he got up to leave, but she slipped on the coffee that was on the floor and pushed him towards the door. His hat was tilted to the side, so she said, 'Oh let me help you with that' and acidentally knocked the hat off along with his toupee." No one was laughing. "He stormed off, and the waitress got fired in front of the whole coffee house." The two started laughing.
"Well, ya had to be there." Lance explained. Everyone was silent. "What?"
Mikayla placed the phone back on the hook. She didn't have the heart to do it. She had been trying to call Cody about their relationship.
She had stayed at the hotel and gotten her own room.
She picked up the phone again and dialed the number. It rang a couple times before she was interrupted by someone knocking on the door. She quickly hung up and yelled 'come in!'.
Chris walked in the room and sat on her bed, as she stared at the phone.
"Ya know, if you want entertainment the tv's right there." He pointed to the television set.
"I'm trying to call Cody."
"To break up with him."
"We're just not meant to be together I guess."
"And Lance." He said, disappointed.
"Yeah. Aren't you his girlfriend now?"
"Girlfriend? I don't know."
"Well then was today at the coffee house just a fling?"
"We're going out to lunch tomorrow."
"Oh you are."
"What's next, going on tour with us?" He asked, sarcastically.
"Maybe." His head shot in her direction.
"I don't know, if he asks me. It's not like I have a job or anything. I live off of Cody."
"You live off of your boyfriend?"
"Well I never could get a job."
"I thought you had one."
"I did, but I got fired a couple days ago. I don't think I'll be able to get another one."
"Why, didn't you get a college degree?"
"Yeah I did, but I'm very clumsy, I get a job and then get fired because I forget something important or I ruin something or break something. I'm just a klutz."
"So you might be going on tour with us?"
"I don't know, if I can, I guess I will." He grew excited.
'This is my chance, she doesn't think of Lance any more than a friend. I can get her this time.'
"Well, I came to ask you if you wanted to watch Friday the 13th with me and the guys."
"Nah I don't think so. I'm not into horror movies."
"Ok, suit yourself." He got up and left the room.
Mikayla turned to the phone, picked it up and dialed.
