Who, Where, and When?
Anyone can participate in animal-assisted therapy programs after they have completed all the necessary steps to obtaining certification
Where?
Many hospitals and nursing homes use AAT dogs and animals. However, a person considering doing this would need to contact their local hospital or healthcare facility to check if they do, and what their requirements are. In the Raleigh area, WakeMed has a Hospitality Pets Programs where therapy dogs are allowed to visit patients.
When?
Many times people volunteer once a week with their animals, or sometimes more. It really just depends on the guidelines of the place where you are volunteering at. At WakeMed, a person may volunteer no more then two times a week, 2 hours each day, with about 10-15 minutes spend with each patient
