Lissencephaly
- Lissencephaly is a disorder characterised by a completely smooth brain. This can also be called agyria, which literally means without gyri. Gyri are the ridges in the brain, and the sulci are the grooves.
- Lissencephaly type 1 is the most common type. Within Lissencephaly type I are other specific types: Miller-Dieker Syndrome (MDS), Norman-Roberts Syndrome (NRS), and Isolated Lissencephaly Sequence (ILS).
- Lissencephaly is a birth disorder with no boundaries as it effects all races and both sexes.
