My Family History
Both of my Maternal Grandparents moved away from their families when they were very young. They married at 19 and 17 and left their families in Wisconsin and Oklahoma to start a new life with opportunities for jobs and prosperity in New Jersey. Living so far from their families has not allowed my Mother or her Brother to establish and maintain relationships with their extended family. My Maternal Grandfather died before I was born and my Grandmother lives with us in NC. I have tried to gather as many stories, information, and memories as I could from my Mother and Grandmother.
My Paternal Grandparents were both born and raised in NJ and have lived their entire lives in that state. Althought their families were not very large, they continued to remain close to their siblings and have many memories of their extended families, most of whom have passed away. My Grandparents still live in NJ along with most of my Dad's family and we unfortunately only get to visit infrequently. I have had conversations with my Dad and Grandparents over the phone, and have tried to gather as much as I could.
Because there are not many traditional folklore stories that have been passed down on either side of my family, I will also include folklore from the Norwegian and Irish cultures, since both are prevalent in my bloodline.
