All of the new photos and profiles of the new and classic members of this elite group can be viewed below. Welcome to THE FEW everyone and consider yourself now knighted!

The following poem I offer to you--

"The Few"

By: Steve O'Neil

We may be few,

but we are strong;

We drive odd

vehicles,

that creak and groan.

When times are hard,

and parts fall off;

We grab a wrench,

and put them back on.

When oils leak,

and fluids run;

We dump more in

and keep on goin'.

With bloody knuckles,

and injured hyde;

We drive on proudly,

our life's a ride.

Through desert hot,

and jungles throng;

We only stop,

when somethings

wrong.

Up mountain high,

Down artic cold;

We battle on,

our hearts of old.

If waters swell,

above our wheels;

We trudge on through,

Great strengths of will.

When days look dark,

and nights seem long;

There is no fear--

We drive our home!

ROVER ON KNIGHTS!!!

Welcome Sir Phillip! ==================================================================

Chris Playforth.

Chris says:

"I wish to join the crimson knights. I don't own a exmod land rover but i do have a (some say unhealthy) intrest in them. My name is Chris Playforth and this is my land rover (well the British Red Cross own it) but i look after it, wash it, and treat like my own. As you proberly cathered i belong to the brc. I cant drive because of a medical condition and i hope the knights take this into consideration. The vehicle itself is not exmod but rather a td5 from MMB. Thank you Chris Playforth"

Welcome Sir Chris!

Scott Schober, from Pennsylvania, USA. He drives the beautiful Ambulance below (my old Warthog).

Scott says:

"One is with my son sitting on the hood and the other is me standing beside the Rover (picture taken by my 7 yr old son). He may have a career as a photographer. We'll keep you posted on the life of the Warthog. Hope to get it state inspected this week to make it street legal. I just love the "respect" the AMBY gets from drivers. What a fun truck to drive! Regards, Scott Schober"

He also states:

"I took the 'hog to a British Car show in Pittsburgh this past weekend and it got a third in its class! Many, many came buy to take a look at it. Quite a conversation piece and pretty handy when yopu need to haul oversize junk."

Welcome Sir Scott and son!

Victor Rutten, from--somewhere--where are you from Victor? He drives the beautiful Ambulance below.

Victor says:

"I recently purchased an ex Dutch Army 109 series III Ambulance build in 1980 and powered with an 2.25 diesel. I took the attached photo's after I drove it home. More details will follow later. Regards, Victor Rutten"

Welcome Sir Victor!

========================================================================

Mike Allmay, from somewhere in the UK. He drives the beautiful Ambulances below.

Mike says:

"Attached should be a picture of my 101 and 109 Ambulances taken at the remains of RAF Bradwell Bay. The 109 is one of the last Series III Marshall Ambulances (No. 160 of 200, 1981) and spent its entire active service life at RAF Cranwell before being pensioned of with 18,000 miles use in 1990. Unusually, it is still kitted and retains some of the often-removed items like the mains-powered battery charger / engine heater. The only work required since release has been an exhaust and, for last year's MOT, an outrigger and two new rear springs. Was exhibited at the 2002 International Classic Car Motor Show at the NEC on the EMLRA stand - the only shiny one on the stand! The 101 is a 1976 example rebuilt and converted by Marshalls in 1981. Spent its active life with the TA in Northern Ireland before being released in 1999. Is still a fully functional ambulance and is used as such for cross-country equine events. Completely original, barring the stainless fuel tank and exhaust system, and has the usual ambulance oil leaks. If you need any more info then let me know! Thanks and regards, Mike"

Welcome Sir Mike!

Frank Klauwer, from Essen, Germany. He drives the beautiful Ambulance below.

Frank also has this sweet Series III 88 soft top.

--you just gotta love the charging Rhino on the door!.

Welcome sir Frank! =================================================================

Jeremy Jackson's beautiful Ambulance.

...Here's what he had to say about his lovely beast.

"...very original 1972 2a ambulance. I got it in about 92 direct from Foleys who at bought it as part of a large number of vehicles at auction in Germany. I don't have any of its military history, but its got Antwerp and a phone number painted on its drivers door, so I'm guessing its spent some time in Europe. When I got it it had just over 7000 miles on the clock, I believe this to be genuine mainly due to its (paint work excepted) condition. Sadly the clock is stuck at 8900 miles and I haven't fixed it yet... Modification wise I've tried to keep it looking original. Its got a 110 Salisbury rear axle, wider and much stronger than original. Range Rover front diff to go with rear axle. Big S3 front brakes and a servo Overdrive. Discovery steel wheels and BFG all terrain tyres 235.85*16 Mickey Mouse winch (that small its pointless, but I had it so I bunged it on!) Air horns 80 channel CB and PA (speaker behind disc on grill) Windscreen washer mounted on wing for squirting cars in front! ;)

To come soon are hopefully a Range Rover front axle, wider and with disc brakes Some kind of radio Nicer (cloth would do) seats Possibly change the stretchers for some kind of beds 3.9 V8 engine. Now I've raised the gearing its just too under powered. I've got a 3.9 so I might as well use it. I'm hoping to install it so it looks original and without changing the front panel.

Civilian reg FTM 533L

Note, this is not a Marshall's body. It was built by a company in London called Mikleover (I think thats correct) to Marshall's design. ."

Welcome sir Jeremy! =================================================================

A Gathering of Knights and their trusty steeds...in the first three photos below you will find a motley assortment of three ExMoD 101 FC Ambulances...all sporting interesting and unique paint schemes. Although they don't look much like ambulances anymore, they are beautiful are they not!!

The first one consists of Richard Clafton's 101 Tiggurr...it seems to be wearing an interesting coat of red paint but oddly enough that's just a strange anomaly created by the digital camera that was used to take the photograph. (Rich's TIGGURR can also be seen in it's beautiful pelt of TIGGURR Orange elsewhere on this page.)

The awesome camo 101 in the forground belongs to Alan Bishop, you can read more about Alan's beast "FEARLESS" below!

Last but not least is Henry Cole Stage's most recent edition to his Land Rover collection...the 101 known as the "Khakilump"!!

...another shot of Alan and Cole's 101's!!!

Another shot of Alan's beast "FEARLESS"..."If you have to ask why?, you'll never understand" ...dosen't it just give you goose bumps! What a glorious monster!

As for the details on Alan's 101 FC Alan writes:

"It was born in 1977.

In-service date as an ambulance - 1982

History not known at present

Standard rover 3.5 V8, permenant 4x4 with locking centre diff as per range rovers etc.

LPG conversion booked for next week -watch this space for updates.

Rear body in the process of being stripped out ready for a refit suitable for travel - plans are for a bed, running water, waste water collection, gas rings and lots, lots more.

As good as the truck looks in it's camo it will not be staying that colour for long due to not being ideal for travelling, even close to home around Europe."

...more later!

Welcome sirs Rich, Allen and Cole! =================================================================

Ron Franklin and his late Series IIa 109", 2/4 Stretcher, Battlefield Ambulance.

Ron lives in Maine, USA. Can't you tell!

"Life is the journey, not the destination..."

Welcome sir Ron! =================================================================

This is Henry Cole Stage III's Ambulance, the Hefelump, out on Ocracoke Island, North Carolina. It has a custom modified Mercruiser powerplant and is outfitted for long distance overland camping. It just oozes power--and possibly a bit of 90wt. You can check out more pics of Cole and his Hefelump On the Expedition Pages by clicking:HERE

Here is an early shot of Richard Clafton's 101 FC ambulance, Right hand drive 12V. Lurking between the chassis rails is a newly implanted Land Rover 300 Tdi diesel!!! Richard was the Knight's first British member.

...and here is a photo of Rich piloting Tiggurr, in his new pelt of Tiggurr orange, through the sands of Libya while he was on a North African Expedition earlier this year! What a great looking Land Rover!!

Below is the Axel Jany's Ambulance sporting it's new coat of paint. Axel hails from Germany!!!

Welcome sir Axel! =================================================================

Steve O'Neil's (the Knights page editor) trusty steed, was once the "WARTHOG", in all it's lethargic beauty. It is now owned by Scott Schober from Pensylvania, USA (see above).

Steve is glad that the Warthog is in good hands and hopes to again own an ex MoD amby one day--until that time hw will enjoy living the life of a roverphile through the pages and friends of the KNIGHTS OF THE CRIMSON CROSS.

Steve lives in Hendersonville, North Carolina USA. He also has another website...The World of Rovers... where you can check out the history of the WARTHOG, it's modifications and some of his adventures with Land Rovers and rover owners. His page can be accessed via a link at the bottom of this page.
