Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Brian Miller seemed to be the perfect teenager. He played for the schools basketball team and ran track. He made good grades, he had a part time job, and he had a car he paid for himself. He even had a girlfriend. He seemed to get everything he wanted.
Kyle Miller was very smart and athletic. He could have played any sport he wanted, but he wasn't interested in sports.
It was hard to believe that Brian and Kyle were twins. They looked identical of course, but their personalities were exactly the opposite of each other.
Brian seemed to have an easy life. He had everything he could possibly need, while Kyle seemed to live in his shadow. Nobody really meant to push Kyle aside, but they did it without knowing it.
"Come on man, just take it already," said Brian. "Were not going to wait here all day."
"I said I don't want it, so leave me alone already," said Kyle.
"I don't see why your making such a big deal about it anyway Brian," said Erin. "Whats wrong if he doesn't smoke?"
Erin Johnson was Brian's girlfriend. She was thin and athletic and had long, straight black hair. Erin and Brian had been dating for almost two months.
"I'll tell you whats wrong," said Brian. "If... If he doesn't smoke... Its just not cool, thats all."
"Does that mean I'm not cool too, because I don't smoke?" asked Erin.
"Thats not what I meant Erin," said Brian. "You know what I mean."
"No," said Erin. "I don't know. I swear Brian, I don't understand you sometimes. I have to go, I'm going to be late for dinner."
Erin walked down the side walk and turned the corner out of sight.
"Damn," said Brian. "Look what you did."
"Hey it wasn't my fault," said Kyle. "You did that on your own."
"Whats gotten into you man," Zack asked. "You've been acting like a jerk lately."
Zack and Keith were standing next to Kyle. Keith was tall with sandy brown hair and blue eyes. Zack had dark brown hair similar to keiths. He was on the basketball team with Brian.
"He's right Brian," said Keith. "You are acting pretty weird."
"Lay off guys," said Brian. "I just can't believe that he won't take the damn cigarette."
"Look," said Zack, getting in Brians face. "This has nothing to do with Kyle, were talking about you. If Kyle doesn't want to smoke its fine with me."
"Yeah," said Keith. "Its fine with me too."
"Whats wrong with you guys?" asked Brian. "You sound like the god damn brady bunch."
"Look," said Zack. "Your starting to act like a jerk. Why don't you consider someone elses feelings for once? Come on guys, lets leave macho man alone so he can cool off a little."
"See you later man," said Keith.
Kyle, Zack and Keith walked across the street and got in Zack's car. Brian sait down on the curb and lit up a cigarette.
"Forget them," mumbled Brian.
That night Brian didn't come home until 11:30. When he walked in the door John Miller, his father was sitting on the couch watching the 11:00 news.
John Miller must have been a handsom man 20 years ago. He was not yet 44 years old, but he was begining to get a slight bald spot on the top of his head. He also had sligtly distinct wrinkles on his forehead and around his eyes. He had a vein in his neck that protruded slightly when he was mad. Brian and Kyle both knew that when they saw that they were in big trouble.
Brian shut the door and started to walk toward the stairs.
"Hold it Brian," said John. "Its past your curfew. Why are you late?"
"I kind of lost track of time," said Brian
Just then Kyle walked into the living room.
"All right Brian. I'll let you go this time, but next time your grounded."
"Thanks dad," said Brian.
"Hey thats not fair," said Kyle.
"Hey but out of my business Kyle," said Brian with a glare in his eyes.
"Brian theres leftovers in the fridge, go eat something," said John.
"Its okay, I'm not hungry," said Brian. "I'll be in my room."
Brian glared at Kyle and wen't up the stairs.
"Since when do you get mad when I don't punnish your brother?" asked John.
"I don't know," said Kyle. "Your always easy on Brian.
