About Aromatherapy
Jenna (that's me), the aromatherapist for Divine Touches,
has been studying and working with aromatherapy
for 10 years and can help you avoid some of the common pitfalls of using aromatherapy.
Background of Aromatherapy
I've read this already, show me the oils!
Fragrances or odors in the air around you can affect your mood, your energy levels, and your
general health. Here at LightWays, we teach individuals how to select scents to help them to improve their general
health and mind-set, as well as using Aromatherapeutics to assist the client in correcting their state of Wellness, and
masking problems in their environment that can complicate their search for Wellness.
Many individuals do not realize that AromaTherapy formulations, whether they are in candle, essential oil, bath
salt, sachet, oil, or incense form, are actually very powerful medicinal tools.
Aromatherapy uses the essential oils of plants, also called the life force of the plant,
mixed with vegetable oils to create blends that can help the healing process of
the human body. These essential oils each have unique properties that make them
perfect for different types of healing. Some help to dull muscle pain while others
can relieve cold symptoms or even help eliminate germs in the home.
There are many ways to use essential oils, a few are listed below. The best aromatherapy solutions are
custom-blended for the person who will use them. This allows the blend to be created with all of the personal
issues of the recipient in mind. Since that is difficult over the Internet, Divine Touches does carry some standard blends
for easy ordering. If you would like a customized solution, send me an email and I can make arrangements with you.
- Meditation -- this one is most often used in bath salts or incense. It is also available as a massage oil.
This powerful blend often helps to clear the mind of distracting thoughts to help encourage a more calm and
meditatiive state.
- Breathe Clear -- This powerful blend is used in many forms and is available in bath salts, massage oil, and incense.
The strong combination of oils in this blend work together and can
help open the nasal passageways and clear out congestion. This one has helped many allergy and cold sufferers through
some of the hardest days. I wouldn't make it through spring without it!
- Bright Morning -- This refreshing blend is a wonderful way to wake up in the morning. If you're not a
morning person, try a little of this in your bath or in the air and see if it doesn't brighten up your mood!
- Deep Sleep -- This calming blend is often used in a diffuser or as incense. It can also be made into a linen spray.
The oils in this gentle blend are used frequently to help put a stop to insomnia. It can also produce very vivid dreams.
If you don't see what you want listed here, that's okay! Write to me and I will be glad to customize a blend for you.

Uses for Essential Oils
- Diffusion: A great way to infuse your space with the therapeutic aromas of essential oils. Diffusion is the volatilization, or evaporation, of the aromatic components of an oil into the atmosphere through the use of accessories, such as ceramic diffuser lamps, electric diffusers and unglazed porous clay diffusers.
- Full-Body or Foot Bath: A full-body or foot bath combines the benefits of diffusion with direct application. A bath gives the oils the chance to be absorbed by the skin and that way to enter the bloodstream. The effects will last much longer than with inhalation. Adding 10 to 15 drops of essential oil after the water is drawn, immediately before entering the water can make for a very healing 8-15-minute soak.
- Massage: Massage takes the best of essential oil blends and uses direct application to provide them. A good, therapeutic massage is a very healing way to absorb the essential oils into the skin, especially for the over-stressed.
- Skin care: Many people may realize that aromatherapy is good for healing, but few realize the extensive benefits of aromatherapy skin care products. Essential oils can be used to rejunvenate the skin, reducing and sometimes eliminate acne and eczema. Most acne treatments strip the oil from the skin to stop acne. The problem with this method is that the skin then thinks there is not enough oil (sebum) and produces more, actually making the problem worse. Aromatherapeutic solutions solve the problem naturally, by using essential oils to balance the sebum levels instead of stripping the oil. Essential oils can also help strengthen and heal dry and damaged hair.
- Inhalation: An inventive way to get quick results. You can put a few drops of oil in bowl of hot water (the heat is necessary to assist evaporation) or on a tissue or cotton ball. Put this near your face (not touching) and inhale. The results are quicker than with large-area diffusion or other methods, though also more temporary. It is helpful to back up this method with another method, such as massage.
