A special thank you is owed to everyone who braved the cold temps Monday night and attended our 66th Annual Chamber of Commerce Banquet.

The speaker, NC Senator Michael Walters did a wonderful job as he made remarks regarding this year’s banquet theme, “For the Love of a Small Town…Yesterday Is Building Tomorrow”. We are more motivated than ever and we hope those of you who attended found a new sense of motivating spirit as well.

The meal, catered by the Todd House, was delightful. Nelson Lee and his staff always do an amazing job. The dinner music was provided by Ms. Meta Mercer, a music teacher with Columbus County Schools. Thank you for providing us with just the right atmosphere as we ate and had fellowship with one another.

Congratulations to this year’s Outstanding Citizen, Mr. H. G. “Doc” Dameron! You have done so much more than anyone realizes for our community. Thank you simply isn’t enough! We love you Doc!!

The Business of the Year award went to First Bank of Tabor City. Thank you Butch Hooks, Angela Grainger, Jessica Davis, Barbara Mincey and Brandi Cartrette for all you do to support your Chamber. You guys have let us use that conference room to make banners more times than I can count in the 15 years I have worked with the Chamber. First Bank is always willing to lend a hand to help our community!

A very special note of gratitude to East Coast Agency’s Bruce McPherson for the inspiring slide presentation, “What ever happened to the days when we met on Main Street?” That one made us all think!

Now that the banquet is behind us, all of here at the Chamber are anxious to get started on the events for this year. There’s always room for more volunteers. We would love to have you involved by serving on one of our various committees. Call me if you are interested in giving back to your community. It really is a rewarding feeling!

The N. C. Yam Festival Board of Directors is meeting monthly planning the 2012 festival which is always the fourth week in October. Mark those calendars for that big festival day of Saturday, October 27. Please call us should you have any questions or suggestions.

Yam Fest t-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, etc. are still available for purchase at the Tabor City Public Library. You may call them for size availability at 910-653-3774.

Together we will make Tabor City a better place to live, work, play, and do business. Remember to help us help you put “Feet on Streets” in Tabor City!
