1. A cage- for cockatiels, the suitable cage is at least 20" by 20". There are many different types of materials used, including wire, wrought iron, and stainless-steel. Wire tends to be the cheapest, but make sure you thoroughly wash it before you put your bird in. The spacings for cockatiels you can check out are 1/2 and 3/4.
2. Perches-We recommend having three different perching surfaces for your bird. Our birds have Polly's Pastel Perches by their food bowls(to reassure us that their nails will be trimmed), a long wooden perch in one corner(you can buy a Comfort Perch), a rope perch(you can also buy a cotton one)in a cage for the soon-to-be-shown bird's cage, and an extra perch in another corner: this perch can be a Cholla cactus perch with minerals by Polly's Pastel or a Wild Walk perch.
3. Swing-The best swing is one that has toys all over it. Also look under "Toys".
4. Toys-Toys keep your bird occupied and will prevent boredom. You can check out the links below for info.
5.Cuttlebone-This supplies calcium and other minerals. You must replace it when it becomes soiled.
6.Food-The best has to be Lafeber or Pretty Bird. Their food is quite expensive, but it lasts a long time, and is a lot more nutritional than seed and other foods. You can feed your bird Lafeber/Pretty Bird as a diet, Crazy Corn or other similiar snacks for a treat in the morning, spray millet as a special nutritious treat every other day, and of course, fruits and veggies. Be sure not to give salty, oily, sweet, or other unhealthy food. You might want to buy a Barron book for all the poisonous food that can harm your bird.
7.Food cups-Our birds have a large food cup, a medium treat cup, and a n extra large water cup. You can give them a crock dish instead. They enjoy it more, and it is good for bathes. Do not place the cups where they can be soiled.
8.A vet-This is very important for your bird. All you need is a yearly check-up. There are many diseases which are not visible to the human eye, and many times can be mistaken for something else. This is the most important thing you can do.
9.Other-there are always additionals, but many can be eliminated if you follow this list. For example, you will not have to purchase vitamins for your birds if you feed pellets. There all ready is nutrients in them , and too much can kill a bird. You can buy an air purifier, a cage skirt, a bird ladder, a playground, treat sticks...
