THE Mount of the Beatitudes was the most significant landmark in my recent pilgrimage to the Holy Land as part of a Neo-Catechumenal delegation.

There at the papal Mass on March 24, I heard Pope John Paul II echoing the call of Jesus Christ to choose good and life, not evil and death.  I hear him also calling us to be courageous apostles of Jesus to proclaim theGood News of the Beatitudes.

Later in the evening at the same spot some 2,500 youth from the assembly of 50,000 members of the Neo-catechumenal Way responded to the call to become priests.

This included three teenagers from our 100-strong Singapore contingent from the four Neo-catechumenal communities in the parishes of St Bernadette and St Francis of Assisi.  We were accompanied by Frs Ignatius Low and Timothy Yeo.

Another 2,000 young womenstood up during the call for Religious vocations.  One of them was from Sabah, whose pilgrimage leader was Bishop John Lee.

We also visited the places where Jesus was born, lived, died and was buried.  The Bible has come alive for me.

Linus Lee, 16, is a Secondary Four student of St Joseph's Institution, Singapore.
