Edward Fleming Lilly of Montgomery County, NC

Edmund Fleming Lilly was the son of Edmund and Mary Fleming Lilly of Virginia. He was born in 1728 and later moved to Montgomery County, NC. He was married three times. His first wife was Sarah Dumas. Of this union at least four children were born. Their names were as follows: James Pleasant, Frances (born 1750), John (born 1753), and Robert (born 1760).
Edmund Fleming Lilly's second wife was Mary Lightfoot. Mary gave birth to at least five children. Their names were Armisted, Henry, Edmund (born 1761), William (born 1765), and Betsy (born 1787).
Edmund Fleming Lilly married Elizabeth Billingsly the third time. She bore him at least three children whose names were as follows: Sarah White, Mary, and Elizabeth.
Edmund Lilly, the third child of Edmund Fleming Lilly by his second wife, Mary Lightfoot Lilly, married Mary Marshall. This couple reared fourteen children. Their names were Thomas Pemberton (born 1794), William Harrison (born 1794), Frances (born 1796), James Marshall (born 1798), Sally (born 1799), David Griswell (born 1801), Thomas (born 1803), Martha Ann (born 1805), Henry (born 1807), John Armistead (born 1809), Mary (born 1811), Edmund Jones (born 1813), Eliza (born 1815), and Robert Blakely (born 1817).
James Marshall Lilly married Carolyn Brooks in 1839. They were the parents of six children whose names were as follows: Ann Martain (born 1839), May Caroline (born 1839), James Marshall (born 1841), Edmund Julius (born 1842), Catharine (born 1843), and George Henry Albert (born 1845).
Edmund Jones Lilly, son of Edmund Fleming and Mary Marshall Lilly, married Hannah Leake. Seven children were born of this union. The names of the children were Ann Leake (born 1842), Mary Alice (born 1845), Virginia (born 1847), Edmund Jones (born 1850), Caroline (born 1852), Emma Marshall (born 1854), and Henry Walters (born 1856).
Descendants of Edmund Jones Lilly moved to Cumberland County, NC, and then to Sampson County, NC in the latter years of the nineteen century.
Members of this family also moved to Cumberland County, NC, and, from Cumberland County, to Sampson County, NC. Land in Sampson County, NC was conveyed from J. Blocker to one Henry Lilly 12 September, 1871. Henry Lilly was from Cumberland County, NC.
