A journey to adulthood, our youth to kiss away.
But as we go we find ourselves at a truly ackward stage.
We're partial, unripe, sketchy and crude at this tender age.
We're old enough to make a choice yet still young in many ways.
Too young to pack our bags and go, too old to want to stay.
Young enough for fun and games, too old for carefree lives.
Young enough for hopes and dreams, yet for reality we strive.
Old enough for heartfelt pain, too young to find the cure.
Too old for childish ways of past, too young to be mature.
Old enough to fall in love and give our hearts away.
But, still too young to understand jus why we feel this way.
We're trusted, loyal, proud and true yet scolded, sneered and scorned.
Between the role of adult and child, we are somewhere torn.
Like an uncompleted work of art, we're awkward, unsure, half baked.
But be patient please for we're on our way to becoming something great.
You are now inside my dreams, inside a book, inside a poem.
Where anything can happen if you only make it real
Plunge into my waters if you're not afraid to feel.
Take off your shoes and close your eyes, relax upon my sand
Join me in my land of dreams, reach out and take my hand.
Let me share my dreams with you until you find your own
I'll take you there if you believe, take mine out on loan.
Where birds are words so gracefully they glide across the sky
Leave behind your worries, here the rules do not apply.
Pick my flower if you like and plant a seed or two
Paint the sky in polka dots if you do not like it blue.
Climb my trees, face your fears; erase them one by one
See the world from up above and don't stop at the sun.
When the world starts raining down and the sun is out of sight
Let your dreams control your mind and help you through the night.
There's a place inside my dreams for all who care to roam
So have a seat upon a cloud and make yourself at home.
And create a poem.
Ability is to stare into the eyes of fear,
And come out stronger because of it.
Ability is to walk into a room of strangers,
And come out with friends.
Ability is to admit you are wrong,
When you are wrong.
Ability is to get back up,
When you fall down.
Ability is to believe,
When everything seems lost.
Ability---a simple word, with a complex meaning.
For many, ability is never found, but for all ability is within.
Ability stares everyone in the face at one time or another.
Whether your ability is how well you shoot hoops,
How well you flip at dancing,
How smart you are at school.
You have ability.
For some, ability is lost by never trying.
Whether never trying to shoot one more time,
Never trying to bend a little more,
Or never trying to score higher in school.
Ability is within.
Ability is yours.
just how beautiful we are, how compassionate we can be.
I wish they could take back, all the cynical things they've said,
and see how much we shine, be positive instead.
Remark on our radiant smiles, and the differences we make,
All of the people our lives touch, all of the chances that we take.
Notice how we change, each and every day,
wanting to leave childhood, yet desperately wanting to stay.
I wish they could remember, how tough our lives can be,
the promises that are broken, the violence that we see.
Yet still we venture onward, unsure of where the road may lead,
Hoping they will take notice, hoping they'll heed,
of the changes that we've made, of the power that we hold,
of the wisdom we have hidden, of the stories yet untold.
I hope that the world will notice, what some have already seen,
teenagers are amazing people, striving to follow their dreams.
And trying when you know you can lose.
Honor is standing for what you believe---not for what you know.
Life isn't about living without problems.
Life is about solving problems.
If you plow the field everyday---the only thing that grows is resentment.
Compassion is passion with a heart.
The only thing in the whole universe that people need to control are their attitudes.
How a person wins and loses is much more important than how much a person wins and loses.
If you only do what you know you can do---you never do very much.
There are no failures---jus experiences and reactions to them.
Getting what you want is not nearly as important as giving what you have.
Going on a journey with a map requires following directions.
Going on a journey without one requires following your heart.
Talent without humility is wasted.
If you don't want it bad enough to risk losing it---you dont want it bad enough
When life knocks you down you have two choices....
Stay down or get up.
Just a tragedy ahead.
Not knowing where each turn will lead,
Within seconds we might be dead.
Live each day to the fullest,
Do not stop to wonder why.
Do everything your heart desires,
In dreams, reach for the sky.
Surprises at every stop sign,
With its share of wrong ways and dead-ends.
Statistics don't help you with the future,
They only tell you where you've been.
With so many people among us,
There are no certainties.
And all it takes is just one person,
To reroute history.
Don't waste one single moment,
How very precious that they are.
What seems a long way off,
Is really not that far.
For the times when I was rude
For all the gifts that were given
And never received thank-yous.
For all the love you've given me
And I haven't given back.
For all the times you were patient
A virtue that I lack.
I'm sorry for all the people
To whom I was so cruel
To all the people I laughed at
I acted like a fool
I couldn't see past your imperfections
I couldn't see past my pride
Your feelings I trampled all over
On my high horse I would ride.
I'm sorry for all the times I lied
For the people I hurt along the way
Not a day goes by that I don't regret it
And I'd take it back any day.
The only person I cared about
Was me and only me
And now I'm truly sorry
I only wish I could make you see.
I'm sorry for everything I've done
For all the people I let down
I'm only asking for a second chance
So I can turn things back around.
I know that it's a little late
My deeds can't be undone
I realize now that I was wrong
And I'm sorry everyone.
when we are forced to let them go---
We always want things a certain way,
when we know they can't be so.
Dreams always last the longest,
when they are furthest from our reach---
And the lessons we can learn the most from,
are often the very ones we teach.
The grass is always the greenest,
when it lies on the other side---
And the truths we preach to others,
are often those we can't abide.
We hold fast to the things in a storm,
which are most likely to blow away---
And yet we neglect to wear sunscreen,
on a bright and sunny day.
We spend our time trying to see things,
when perspective is one thing we lack---
And we never appreciate what we've got,
until we can't get it back.
We expect the whole world to give us a break,
and yet ironically we'll find---
That when others come asking the same of us,
we tell them they're out of their mind.
We tell everyone what's wrong with this world,
and we do nothing to make it right---
We complain about the families falling apart,
and yet do nothing to keep them tight.
We preach about loving our neighbors,
and we teach children right from wrong---
But we never set good examples for them,
when real chances come along
We complain about not having enough time in our lives,
to do what we must do---
Yet if we were given more hours in the days,
we'd use up all that, too.
We desire to be close to all those we love,
yet all too often look on from afar---
And when it comes to the truth do we want to change,
or remain forever as we are?
and you can picture my face---
I'm smiling....
Open your mouth, speak with your heart
and you can see my soul---
I'm waiting....
Place your arms on my waist
and you can embrace my uncertainity---
I'm shaking....
Press your lips against mine
and try to catch me---
I'm falling....
Once it forked---the bad, the good.
I chose to take the left-hand path,
I did not know, I had no map.
Now this road that I travel is dirty and battered.
It's littered with dreams that are broken and tattered.
Paved with wrongdoings and dotted with hearts,
That were taken from people and just torn apart.
Pain and regret are common here.
Wherever you turn, they're always near.
I want to cross to the other path,
And leave behind this painful wrath.
I thought I was forever doomed to walk.
And all the gates were tightly locked.
But as I continued, a footbridge I could see.
A Bridge of Hope called out to me.
Slowly I crossed to the path of good.
Finally I was on the path of which I thought I should.
Now hidden deep within the woods.
The one that forked; paths bad and good.
I once was wrong, but now I'm right.
And before me glows a guiding light.
Altered by a little step.
So close to falling in darkened depths.
But I was finally pulled to hope.
I found that footbridge, and learned to cope.
My simple mistake following the crowd.
Ignoring the heart that speaks so loud.
The choices you make can change your life.
One will bring happiness, the other brings strife.
Following the crowd, won't lead you to right.
If you follow your heart, you'll be guided by light.
There was a path, deep in the woods.
Once it forked---the bad, the good.
Heed my warning, Because I know.
Follow your heart---you know where to go.
I am a person living a life of shame.
I am your daughter hiding my depression.
I am your sister making a good impression.
I am your friend acting like I'm fine.
I am a wisher wishing this life weren't mine.
I am a girl who thinks of suicide.
I am a teenager pushing her tears aside.
I am a student who doesn't have a clue.
I am the girl sitting next to you.
I am the one asking you to care.
I am your best friend hoping you'll be there.
You don't want to get out of bed and face a world of hate.
If everything in life goes wrong and nothing you do seems right
You just try a little harder and soon you'll see the light.
For every person who has put you down and filled your life with pain,
You must strive to achieve greatness and show them you can win.
For every disappointment, for the times you are let down,
There will be a better moment and your life will turn around.
Because everyone feels heartache and everyone feels pain,
But only those who have true courage can get up and try again.
Spent one minute in my shoes?
If you haven't then tell me why
You judge me as you do.
Have you ever woken up in the morning
Wondering if this was your last day on Earth?
Have you ever left your house
Unsure if you'd return?
Have you ever seen your friend get shot
Outside his favorite store?
Have you ever seens a friend die
From drugs he'd never used before?
Have you ever seen your mom get beat up
By your stepdad messed up on booze?
Have you ever had an unwanted pregnancy
Forcing you to choose?
Have you ever sat beneath the stars
Hoping God will hear?
Have you ever seen your friends drive away
After way too many beers?
Have you ever had a friend
Experiment with weed?
Have you ever covered up guilt
By doing a good deed?
Have you ever considered suicide
As the only way?
Have you ever tried to hide yourself
Behind the things you say?
Have you ever wanted to protect
Your friends and everyone in sight?
Have you ever felt such pain
That you cried yourself to sleep at night?
Have you ever lived my life,
Spent one minute in my shoes?
If you haven't, then tell me why..
You judge me as you do.
Some suicidal teen
Who makes a choice to kill herself
When the world just seems too mean.
She can't go on with life
Or so to her it seems
Reality has fallen short
And so have her many dreams.
I don't want to be another statistic
Some pregnant little girl
Who met this great guy
And then gave sex a whirl.
She was only fifteen
But it felt so right
She thought they'd be together
For more than just a night
I don't want to be another statistic
Some kid strung out on crack
Who started at a party
And now he can't turn back.
Now meth, crack and cocaine
He's been smoking it so long
That now he's gone insane.
I don't want to be another statistic
Some girl left in the rain
Who was walking home from school
Then raped and left in pain
She can't tell her parents
And it hurts to tell her friends
She doesn't know what she'll do
To make this nightmare end.
I don't want to be another statistic
Some kid out of school
Who dropped out really early
And was acting like a fool.
He thought that it was boring
He thought that it was dumb
He doesn't have an education
But lives on the streets like a bum.
I don't want to be another statistic
Some stereotypical teen
I'm gonna make a difference
I'll finish with my dream.
I won't end up pregnant
On drugs or even dead
I won't drop out of school
Because I'll use my head.
I don't want to be another statistic
To fit into some mold
Of what society thinks of kids today
Because it's getting kind of old.
Not all of us are bad
In fact most of us are good
When will the world see us
And give us credit like they should?
