Shuttle Bay

The Main Shuttlebay is located on Deck 8, but also includes the Shuttle Observation Deck (and high bay) on Deck 7and the Shuttle Service Bay on Deck 9. The shuttle repair and storage areas are also housed on Deck 9. There are also two small service shuttlebays in the aft section of each of the secondary hulls. From these bays, auxiliary spacecraft operations are performed.

When in use and under normal operating conditions, the Main Shuttlebay doors are open, with atmospheric integrity maintained by an annular forcefield, which allow craft to enter and leave the bay without depressurization. Launch and approach maneuvers are managed by the Flight Operations Officer, supervised by the Bridge Operations Officer.
