Welcome to the 1999 Fajardo Giants Superior League football team website. Our team is one of 8 PRAFF semi-pro teams on the island of Puerto Rico. The roster is composed of native islanders as well as military members stationed in Puerto Rico. Under the first year leadership of Coach Brian Haack in the 1998 season, the Giants finished the regular season undefeated but suffered a second round playoff elimination. With a few key return players and a mixture of talented new players, the Giants are sure to bring the National Championship to the city of Fajardo in 1999.

WEEK 7 PREPARATION

The Giants, now going into week seven, 6-0, must maintain the techniques and motivation that have brought them success in the 1999 season. Weekend practices in pads are no longer in the program while weekday practices have been increased to 3 to 4 times nightly to prevent laziness. Coach Haack has given no indication of letting up as drills are done 100% max effort, and grueling 2 to 3 mile runs in full gear are still a part of GIANTS conditioning.

FAJARDO(1-0) vs. BALDRIDGE(0-1)

The #4 Giants beat the #1, three time PRAFF National Champions 14-6 in a game that sent a message to the rest of the league that the road to the National Championship runs through Fajardo. The MUSTANGS showed up to Fajardo sadly undermanned only with their pride keeping them in the game up to halftime. The Baldrige coach planned well against Coach Haack's basic offense by keying on the GIANT's leading rusher from the 1998 season Christian Ross, holding him to 50 yards and one touchdown, but Baldridge's dirty dozen soon folded after halftime when Haack unleashed Robert Price and Clarence Harriston into the offensive playbook combining for better than 100 yards and one touchdown. With good teams like San Juan, Oceanpark, and Rio Piedres lurking about, it's open season on the Baldrige football program and the plan of saving all of their premier players until championship day, may backfire in their faces.

WEEK ONE ENDZONE DANCERS

FAJARDO(2-0) vs. CAROLINA(0-2)

The week 2 schedule matched the GIANTS against the CAROLINA PANTHERS. The PANTHERS showed up posing as a football team, sadly out-manned and under-motivated. The GIANTS superstar wingback Robert Price took one to the house(scored a touchdown) from the first play of scrimmage with a run of 50 yards. It seemed the PANTHERS just gave up after the first GIANTS touchdown, throwing a ball right into the hands of D-Lineman John Kingkade for a TD and then allowing a GIANTS kickoff to roll into their endzone unmolested where the GIANTS recovered for another TD. Fullback Paul Wotis later scored followed by a 55 yd TD run by GIANTS speedy wingback sensation Clarence "C-Murder" Harriston. Fullback Richard Vathy and Wingback Christian Ross had a quiet day as CAROLINA forfieted the game before halftime having taken about as much as they could. The 36-0 endgame score would have doubled had the game been played out 4 quarters. For the sake of American semi-pro league eyes keeping tabs on the PRAFF 1999 season, one would hope that Rio Piedres will come out to play some football in week three against the GIANTS.

WEEK TWO ENDZONE DANCERS

FAJARDO(3-0) vs. MANATI(0-3)

The week 3 schedule matched the GIANTS against the MANATI THUNDERBOLTS. The THUNDERBOLTS actually had their pre-game faces on as they went through a series of drills and stretching lead by league legend and San Juan Star Newspaper Sports Columnist Rodney Bristow(50 something years old). MANATI had lost two prior games to BALDRIDGE and RIO PIEDRES by only 2 touchdowns. The GIANTS beat MANATI last year 44-6 but only outplayed MANATI last Saturday 22-0 with the score only 8-0 at halftime. This is where it gets tricky; after a reception for a touchdown by ROBERT PRICE that was called back for holding, things seemes to go downhill for the GIANTS. 1. RIO PIEDRES opted not to play the GIANTS this week pitting the GIANTS against MANATI hoping the GIANTS would be worn down and plagued by injuries by week 4. 2. The GIANTS were slapped with countless penalties that put MANATI in the red zone about 4 times during the game. 3. MANATI made an unbelievable, ref assisted, goal line stand against the GIANTS fullback core and when the GIANTS wingback Christian Ross dove into the corner of the endzone on an outside play, the ref didn't bother placing his hands up because of a blocking below the waist penalty against the GIANTS(which by the way makes the recalled toucdown count 5 in three games. 4. The ref assisted offensive penalties placed pressure on the 3-deep GIANTS wingbacks to get into the endzone who, by the way, ran all over CAROLINA last week and left the game against MANATI only two deep as PRICE was injured after a late whistle and HARRISTON suffered a blow to his ankle after he was already close to being down. 5. After the only completed pass the GIANTS made, which was voided because of a holding call, the starting QB(ANDERSON) was off the mark the rest of the game. ANDERSON was replaced by a cold SIERRA who was sacked on his first play from scrimmage. The GIANTS did get into the endzone the first half with a 30 yd. ROSS touchdown. The second half, ANDERSON took one to the house on a QB keep for about 45 yds followed by a HARRISTON TD for about 30 yds. The game was eventually stopped with about 2 minutes left due to a PRE-MEDITATED HEADHUNTING call against MANATI. It seemes the THUNDERBOLTS were plotting to hurt on of the GIANTS players. Next week the GIANTS travel back to CAROLINA to play RIO PIEDRES.

ROSS' FINAL WORD
WEEK THREE ENDZONE DANCERS

FAJARDO(4-0) vs. RIO PIEDRES(2-1-1)

Well I asked the LORD for a football game and He sure did deliver one. Week four pitted the GIANTS against the Rio Piedres BLITZ. This game was the final of a triple header played at Carolina's Central Stadium. From the first snap, it was obvious that the BLITZ had successfully scouted and prepared for the GIANTS basic offense. The BLITZ moved the ball successfully in the first quarter running off-tackle and a series of sweeps. The BLITZ defense sniffed out almost every running play the GIANTS threw at them shutting down the bruising fullback PAUL WOTIS and containing the speedy wingback duo CHRISTIAN ROSS and CLARENCE HARRISTON. Quarterbacks CRAIG ANDERSON and JORGE SIERRA were rotated every offensive play. Late in the second quarter, HARRISTON went down after he suffered a blow to his ankle. Going into halftime the game remained scoreless. Defensive coach TRAVIS BACON made an adjustment at halftime to stop the BLITZ' running attack. The GIANTS offense still struggled against the BLITZ' 8-man defensive front and had no success with the deep pass routes although in hind site, it would have been better to have nickle and dimed the BLITZ' slower and smaller cornerbacks with slants and quick-out patterns. Going into the fourth quarter still scoreless, the GIANTS had to pitch shut-outs because of the offense's inability to move the ball. With 52 seconds left in regulation, the BLITZ' quarterback quick-snapped the ball and spiked it into the ground to stop the clock. What he did'nt know was that it was already fourth down, which meant the GIANTS retained possession of the football inside the BLITZ' 20 yd. line. That brought in the GIANTS' strong safety DONNIE PAGE into a reciever position. PAGE's 6"3 height and good catching ability allowed he and ANDERSON to connect on a quick slant across the middle to get inside the BLITZ' 15 yard line. After a GIANTS timeout, SIERRA and PAGE connected on a post-corner route for the game winning touchdown. Fullback RICHARD VATHY, who also had an outstanding day running the ball, punched in the two point conversion to give the GIANTS an 8-0 lead with 10 seconds left in the game. A MICHAEL BAILY kickoff was covered well by the GIANTS' special teams as the final whistle blew ending the game.

WEEK FOUR ENDZONE DANCERS

FAJARDO(5-0) vs. AGUADA(1-4)

The GIANTS travelled cross country to the beautiful city of Aguadillia to meet the AGUADA SPIDERS. The GIANTS had no problems moving the ball as fullback RICHARD VATHY marched the ball down the field effortlessly. Wingback CHRISTIAN ROSS punched in the first touchdown in from 9 yards out making the score 8-0. The next touchdown was scored from 12 yards out by CRAIG ANDERSON showing promise from the fullback position to make the score 14-0. Linebacker NESTOR GARCIA intercepted a SPIDER pass and returned it for 30 yards and another GIANTS touchdown making the score 22-0. RICHARD VATHY also scored a touchdown from inside the 10 yard line to make the halftime score 28-0. The second half was full of substitutions as the GIANTS second team took over the game. The final play of the game was capped off by wingback ROMY SALOMON's touchdown reception from 20 yards out making the final score 34-0.
WEEK FIVE ENDZONE DANCERS

FAJARDO(6-0) vs. SAN JUAN(4-1-1)

Week six brought the GIANTS to MANATI's home field to meet the San Juan FIRE. The game took on a fast pace early in the game as the GIANTS scored from the first play from scrimmage with a quick flare pass from QB SIERRA to ROSS who took it to the house for about 50 yards. The FIRE turned right around and scored on a pass right in the middle of the GIANT defense. The GIANTS pushed the ball deep into the FIRE's red zone and with ROSS scoring from 7 yard out to make the score 13-6. The GIANTS then took possesion of the ball again and scored on a pass from SIERRA to PRICE for about 25 yards making the score 19-6 going into halftime. The FIRE came out in the second half and capitalized off of 2 GIANTS turnovers and put 2 quick touchdowns on the board making the score 19-22 FIRE. The game was winding down with about 6 minutes left when DONNIE PAGE took the ensuing kickoff back 85 yards for a touchdown. San Juan then threw an interception right into PAGE's hands who ran it back for another GIANTS touchdown. The GIANTS placekicker MICHAEL BAILY added the extra point to make the score 33-22 GIANTS. GIANTS linebacker NESTOR GARCIA intercepted a FIRE's pass over the middle to add the icing on the cake for a FAJARDO VICTORY and a first round playoff bye.
WEEK SIX ENDZONE DANCERS

FAJARDO(7-0) vs. OCEAN PARK(3-4)

In a game filled with mistakes and a lack of motivation, the GIANTS escaped with a 14-12 victory over OCEAN PARK. Both touchdown were scored by Donnie Page, who once again saved the GIANTS from another loss. An end to an undefeated regular season pits the GIANTS against the winner of the first round playoff game between BALDRIGE and OCEAN PARK.
