Hurricane Katrina, one of the most powerful hurricanes to ever hit the United States of America, killed thousands of people and left millions more homeless. It was a category five hurricane and many believe will become the most expensive storm in the history of the United States. Even though there was a weeks warning about this massive storm thousands of people stayed behind in many cities that are now destroyed. Hurricane Katrina is one of the most devastating natural disasters ever, but it might not be considered the most powerful storm of all time. Currently the deadliest storm of all time to hit the United States is the hurricane that hit Galveston, Texas which wiped out a little over 9,000 people. Hurricane Katrina was an F5 hurricane trounced New Orleans with extremely high winds and devastating floods. With the death toll still rising the United States now knows that hurricanes can cause as much damage to property and civilians as terrorist attacks can cause. The plan fact is that Hurricane Katrina caused more damage to Gulf Coast states than anyone could have ever imagined. Now the only thing United States can do is try to save as many people as possible and rebuild after this very costly storm. The most devastating hurricane to ever hit the country, Hurricane Katrina killed thousands of people while touching the lives or so many more. With every day thousands more dollars are made for this horrific disaster. Although millions of dollars have been raised some still believe that the relieve effort have been sub-par. Many people have commented on President Bush's lack of action and urgency before the hurricane and during the days following. Many feel that proper attention was paid to New Orleans but not enough was done Mississippi and Alabama. The people in those states had to wait a week before FEMA even set up major office in any one of these states. However, many people in those states were not in as much danger as the citizens of New Orleans. I feel that given the forecast for the storm and the time they had to prepare the federal government set up appropriate measures to deal with the impending disaster. However, after the storm actually hit and passed by the government and many other organizations could have done a lot more to save people, keep order, and provide care to those at the football stadium who were in constant peril. In conclusion, Hurricane Katrina caused gargantuan amounts of damage and took numerous lives. Even though some debate that the federal government did not react fast enough to save lives they did all they could with the time and resources they had. The government should be thanked for saving people and stepping in when they did instead of it being condemned. All that the nation and specifically the Gulf Coast can do now is rebuild and pray that everyone makes it through this horrific disaster alive and in good health.
