Interview Part B

I person I interviewed was my mother, Kimberly McCabe. I have always gone to her for help in anything that has to do with literature or grammar. She has been with me and seen me develop though my entire educational career and has many insights on how I have developed as a reader, writer, and a thinker. I have never been the most skilled reader or writer, but I have always had the most amazing way of thinking. Ever since television and the internet came out I have not been reading in great amount. I started reading when I was around four but at a very young age I always loved to open a book and just describe the pictures inside. Then I got distracted from reading until around my sophomore or junior year in high school. I started reading books based on movies that I like to read like Star Wars. Also, there has always been a select few books that I have enjoyed that were required reading in class, such as; The Giver, The Transail Saga, and The Da Vinci Code. All the other books I have ever read were required for school or I was forced to read for some other cause. My parents always encouraged me to read more as a child and they still do today. I should probably read more than I do now because I loved it so much at a very young age.

Writing, one of my weakest skills, was taught to me very poorly in elementary and middle school. All teachers I had when I was younger just encourage their students to write however they wanted and spell words however they wanted. This was meant to focus more on students creative abilities but it hindered their grammatical development. I continue to spell some words just like they sound because that is how I was initially taught. Although my grammar and spelling have been almost horrible my creativity and thoughts have always been humorous and I am never away to share my views on any subject in my writing. Free writing has always been my favorite type of writing in school. When the teacher just says, “Here’s a piece of paper and a topic. Tell me what you think.” I would just start writing multiple pages. Even though my writing has improved greatly over the years I still feel it has much room for improvement.

I have always thought differently than most other people. I do not like doing things the way I am told. I would rather go out and develop my own way of doing something or my own ideas about something. Although, many of my thoughts and feelings about things change as I grow older I always feel there is a better way of doing things, whether it is a law or a definition I always come up with my own explanation or ideas. It is a quality that many people admire and is something I would never want to lose. I can only hope that someday I get into a position to impose some of my ideas and see if they actually work and make things better.

Reading and writing, things I have always struggled with, are subjects that I need to improve upon. Ever since I was in middle school I have never been interested in either so in the future I need to start developing these necessary skills.
