2011 Pottery Summer Camp for Kids!

Elizabeth Priddy has been teaching clay for 20 years in Cary, Raleigh, Bailey, New Bern, Morehead City, and Beaufort. Through county and city parks and rec programs, and now at her studio in Beaufort, Elizabeth teaches throwing, painting, hand-building, and sculpting clay for children ages 5 to 18.


  • Class sizes are from 5 to 8 kids, grouped by age
  • Those enrolled in classes not meeting the minimum can be rescheduled to a different class or receive a refund.
  • Children help in choosing their specific projects for the week.
  • Camps include healthy snacks, materials, and firing.

  • Sculpture
    Students will learn about 3-dimensional design, soft and hard slab construction techniques, clay carving, and building with forms. Painting and decoration will incorporate a variety of cold finishes. Subjects will be chosen by participants. Work will be fired both during the week and for pick-up one week after class is over.
    July 18-22, 9AM-12PM, Ages 7-9, Limit 8 children $150.00

    Extruded Clay
    A wall-mounted clay extruder makes forms out of clay that the children will use to make functional clay pieces. These clay forms are machine assisted hand-building projects. Work will be glazed. Work will be fired both during the week and for pick-up one week after class is over.
    August 1-5, 9AM-12PM, Ages 10-12, Limit 8 children $150.00

    Throwing on the Pottery Wheel
    Children will learn to throw on a potter’s wheel. A take-home DVD will be used. Participants will make one to five pieces during the week. This class requires patience, persistence, and practice! Both electric and kick wheels will be used by all children. Kids will also learn to use tabletop wheels to make mini pots at home. Children will not be expected to produce finished objects until the last two days of camp. Please take this into consideration based on your child’s personality before signing up for this class Work will be available for pick-up one week after class is over.
    August 8-12, 9AM-12PM, Ages 10-12, Limit 5 children $200.00

    Drawing and Painting
    Children will learn to draw using methods including gesture, contour, and perspective. Painting will be based on Chinese watercolor techniques on rice paper. Materials will be provided including a sketchbook. Brushes will be provided and available for purchase.
