The Beach

Maybe

Generally this movie was pretty interesting. The scenery was certainly excellent. One big problem, and the major reason I can't give this movie the green light, is the whole deal with Daffy. At the beginning you can't understand a damn word he is saying. Then in the middle that whole Daffy psycho-dream sequence is completely shitty as well as being unrelated to the plot. The movie would've moved along much more smoothly if they had cut both of those parts out. Then it would have made more sense, run a normal length, and gotten the green light. Made me think that this must've originally been a book, and that part just didn't translate well from print.
At the end was the scene that irritated me most. Why would everyone be so freaked out and disgusted that Sal would be willing to shoot Leonardo DiCaprio in order to keep the island paradise together? Exxxcuuse me, but didn't the whole community complicitly help her once before by leaving that one guy out in the jungle to ROT to death? Is shooting someone worse than that? NO I DIDN'T THINK SO EITHER!!
PS - That French guy certainly took losing his girlfriend quite well, didn't he?
PPS - This one came from Elizabeth. If that was really a lagoon, how did sharks get in there? heehee. Good question.
