Boiler Room

Don't rent it

Reviewer: Joe Casaletto

While you're watching it, you're thinking, "Okay, this is pretty good. Things are happening." You will be liking it even though you do have to suspend your common sense a lot -- because there is NO WAY any brokers work like that, or for that matter there's no way any people are stupid enough to buy stocks that way. Also the part with the separate empty office with all the phones was hard to understand. I mean, if you needed a backup office to escape to when the heat is on, would you put it right next door to your current office!? DUH. And if you weren't using it, why hook up like 300 phones?
Whatever. Maybe that's just me not understanding something. But one part is inexcusably LAME and stupid. The start of the movie is really the end, and as you can see JT Marlin is back in business again. BUT LOOK WHO IS AT THEIR LITTLE PARTY - SETH! Do you actually think A) he would want to come back to that company, or B) they would hire him back AFTER HE TURNED THEM IN TO THE FBI?!? Jesus Christ, how stupid can you get. Red light right there.
PS - About two days after seeing this movie we saw an episode of Married With Children, where Seth from this movie is one of Bud's friends. He was about 12 years old. It is the one where Bud dates a mannequin.
