Buddy's Bluegrass Page

Days Gone By

This page contains some old pictures of me, Maria, and some old friends with whom we have played over the years. It is by no means exhaustive. I have just included the pictures I can find. Unfortunately, I am the photographer for the most part around the house and I can't play music and take pictures at the same time.

Here is one which was taken at a student party when we were a lot younger.

The Green Springs String Band perfoming at the Union Grove Fiddler's Convention, early 70's. Visible are David Lawson on the fiddle and myself on the banjo.

This is Tommy Edwards in the late 60's. Currently, he is the lead singer and guitarist for the Bluegrass Experience, a band that has played in the Raleigh NC area for over 25 years. He is also the person to whom I owe the greatest debt. He knew the music when I was learning and tolerated my amateurism. But best of all, when I played with him, it was "take no prisoners". Nothing will improve your playing like playing with someone who is better than you.

The Green Springs String Band at Union Grove in 70 or 71. I am ashamed to say I can only identify Woody Thurman (2nd from left) and David Lawson (3rd from left). I am second from the right.

This is Tom Garverick, someone who remains a friend although he has now moved away. He was another who knew more than I and was willing to share.
