To the honorable General Assembly of the State of North Carolina Session 1803

The petition of the undersigned Citizens of your Counties of Guilford and Stokes respectfully sheweth,

1. That James Love Senr. late of the County of Stokes deceased was in his lifetime and at his death possessed of a Negro man named Aaron and a Negro woman named Magg who by their industry and good management with little or no direction o assistance maintained him their aged and infirm Master in a descent and Predictable manner, were steady to his interest and tender to him in the latter part of his life he being very weak and infirm and needing much assistance and nursing which they promptly performed, And particularly distinguished themselves by their sympathetic kindness and gentle treatment in his last long and afflicting illness, behaving towards him as became good Obedient slaves towards a generous, aged, debilitated and dying Master---

2. That the said James Love who was a quiet orderly Citizen in Consideration of their uncommon services was desirous that after his death they should be liberated with a promise whereof he frequently encouraged them to continue in their duty, and with that intention did by his last will and testament (a Copy wherof is herewith laid before your honorable body) bequeath them unto Seven persons therin named [verbally] enjoining on them to use such lawful measures as they might think proper to procure their liberation.

3. That with the same view and in Conformity to the Said Will James Love Junr Administrator therof did on the 29th day of September 1800 formally and Actually deliver the said Aaron and Magg unto the said Legatees, in whose peaceable possession they have since remained and now are and have behave and do behave themselves in a Sober, quiet, orderly, and industrious manner---

We therefore the Surviving Legatees (Edmond Jean dead) do most earnestly pray your honourable Body, to take the subject under consideration and if it should appear to your wisdom expedient to carry the intention of the said James Love into effect, that you would liberate the said Aaron by the name of Aaron Moses and Magg by that of Mary Magdalene and your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray & c
