In the name of God, Amen.
I John James of Stokes County and of the State of North Carolina being of perfect mind and memory (blessed be God) do this twenty seventh day of February in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand eight hundred and thirteen make and publish this my last will and testament in the manner and form following, that is to say first, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Hannah provided she should be the longest liver one Negro woman named Ellin, and her child named Edmund, and her bed and furniture, one horse creature, one cow and calf and her choice of the hogs, as many as four, with whatsoever household furniture she may deem necessary to her and only her proper and for and during her natural life and after her decease the property to be sold on a credit of twelve months, and the monies thence arising when collected to be equally divided amongst my eight children, Second I give and bequeath unto my eight children, William Cary Jeames, John Bailey Jeames, Thos. Jeames, Cary Jeames, Joseph Jeames, Martha Love, Mary Merrit, Sary Poindexter, all the lands which I may have a just right and title to at the time of my death, to be sold on a credit of twelve months also all the Negroes which I may have a right and title to at my decease, with all my personal property, consisting of horses, cattle, sheep,hogs, and stock of every description, with my household furniture, farming utensils and tools of every kind, to be sold on a credit of twelve months by my worthy Executors herin after nominated and appointed and the monies thence arising when collected, after all my just debts are paid to be equally divided amongst my eight children above mentioned, agreeable to what I have already given then, as I have given to my son Cary Jeames above named the sum of forty fiver dollars, thirdly I give and bequeath unto my son Thos. Jeames extra one bed and furniture, Fourthly, I nominate and appoint John G. Poindexter and Joseph Jeames, and my friend Sam Kinneman Executors of this my last will and testament, Disannulling disowning and revoking all former Wills and Testaments by me heretofore made and done In witness whereof the said John James have hereunto subscribed his name in the presents of us who were present at the making and signing thereof.
