My Love Story
Hello!!! I am Angie, and this is the story of the last 12 years of my life.
Well almost 12 years anyway. 12 years ago, I was 14 years old. I wasn't
looking for love, as I had a steady boyfriend. Anyway, I was getting ready
to begin my freshman year in high school, and wasn't really sure where I was
going with my life. I had already chosen most of my 9th grade classes, and
with the exception of one class period, I had my whole schedule filled. Well,
as most mothers are, my mom wasn't about to let me turn my schedule in at
the last minute so she was pushing me to choose my final classes. I wasn't
into the usual "girly" classes, as I was a tomboy from my earliest memories.
I didn't want to take agriculture classes. Farming just wasn't something I
was interested in. Anyway, between my mom pushing me to finish my schedule
and my best friend pushing me to take this class with her, I ended up taking
a combination auto mechanics/welding class my freshman year of high school.
Well on that first morning, as I walked into the shop and smelled the dirt
and oil, I was really thinking hard about trying to change my schedule. Then
class started, and the teacher walked in with his student teacher (juniors
and seniors could be assistants in their favorite classes for class credits).
Well, I immediately decided that I wasn't going to hate this class so much.
I of course knew that (1) I already had a boyfriend; and (2) the student
teacher was a senior (and seniors don't hang out with freshmen) so I had no
chance whatsoever at a relationship with this guy, but still, he had this
gorgeous smile, and these chocolate brown eyes that just made me feel......
I can't find words to describe that feeling.
Well, George (that's his name) didn't seem to notice me or any of the other girls in class, so I
figured he already had a girlfriend or something. But I noticed him in other
classes, and at lunch and stuff, and there was never a girl around, so I
started asking questions. (One thing I was always known for was the way I
made sure that if there was something I wanted, it wasn't a secret.) I found
out that he wasn't in a relationship. And the one I was in had become pretty
rocky in the 2 weeks prior to this time. So I began to subtly drop little hints
to this guy. They didn't work, either he wasn't interested, or he didn't read
hints. So my friends started talking to some of his friends. Like I said, I
don't keep things that I want a secret. Anyway, after about 6 weeks of trying
to get noticed (and being noticed by seemingly everyone except him), it happened!
He mentioned that he "might" be interested. Things went rather quickly from there.
I learned that he had noticed me all along, but he was a very shy fella. I just
had to work on that. *grin*
Finally on October 27, 1985 he asked me to be his girl... You couldn't have
pulled me off that high with a bulldozer. Our first date was the Homecoming
game. I don't remember who played our team. I don't remember who won. But I
remember afterwards, the sweetest, softest kiss I had ever felt in my life.
I know you are thinking "she was only 14, probably one of her first kisses"
but I started dating a couple of years earlier, and I went out with more
than one guy in my life. So I knew what a kiss was. And this one was MAGIC!
My parents and I were going out of state to visit mom's family for Thanksgiving
and I couldn't bear the thought of being without him for so long. So he went
with us. We went on to be together through Christmas, New Years,
the prom and Valentine's
Day. On Valentine's Day he proposed, yes, the whole thing. Down on one knee
in front of my mom, asking her permission. She thought it all rather funny,
and since she thought it was a big joke, she went along with it. She even gave
me one of her diamonds as my "engagement" ring. I wonder what she would have
said then if she had only known how things would turn out.
If this
hasn't bored you to death so far and you would like to find out more,
