William D. Bland, Ph.D.

William D. Bland received a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, a Master of Arts in Psychology from Appalachian State University, and a Master of Sociology and a Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology from North Carolina State University. Dr. Bland has worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor, staff psychologist, and college/university professor. With over 25 years of college teaching experience, he has held academic appointments in Psychology, Sociology, and Criminology.

Trained in both psychological and sociological perspectives, Dr. Bland takes an interdisciplinary view of adult development and aging. He has taught the following courses specifically related to aging: Human Growth and Development, Psychology of Aging, Sociology of Aging, Sociology of Death and Dying, and Introduction to Gerontology. His publications include two articles in The Encylopedia of Financial Gerontology (Greenwood Press, 1996) and numerous articles on a variety of topics in other professional journals.
