Greek Week 2003
For the first time in the history of the Phi Theta chapter of Lambda Chi
Alpha they weren’t robbed from their rightful championship. What championship you ask, the
2003 Greek Week Champions. The week started out like we expected by being shafted in the
banner competition and finishing 3rd. The week took a turn for the better when we placed first in
Games Night. The most exciting events of the week were the basketball and football
championship both of which we were involved.
The shot heard round the world.
Friday night was the basketball championship against Sigma Phi Epsilon. The game was
tied with under a minuet left when Joe Ioia hit Ben Robbins underneath with pass. Ben
turned and missed the shot. SigEp raced down court and scored. We were forced to foul
their best free throw shooter. He missed both free throws and we still had life. Once
again we were forced to foul the same player and once again he missed both free throws.
Lambda Chi called a timeout to talk it over. In the huddle Kyle (KP) Phillips told Joe Ioia
give him the ball "I will make it" KP said with no doubt in his voice. At the sound of the
whistle Joe faked a pass then hit KP in the corner. After two pump fakes KP rose over
the defenders and dropped a three pointer from the corner with one second left. Lambda
Chi Alpha won the basketball championship.
Coming off the victory extremely broken, battered and exhausted we came together to win the
semifinals in football. The championship game was very early the following game. It was a hard
fought battle but we couldn’t overcome the injuries and exhaustion. We recorded our first loss in
12 games against a Greek opponent. We know everyone is interested in what we did for Lip
Sync. This year we performed The Rocky Horror Picture Show with the Alpha Chi Omegas and
it was amazing. Joe Ioia was actually dressed as a transvestite, while he looked truly gruesome it
was also one of the funniest things ever witnessed. Despite all of our hard work we finished third.
Finally, the time came to announce the winners. Due to a personal grudge from one of the
members on the Greek Week committee we lost 50 points off our final score. This caused us to finish in
a tie with Sigma Phi Epsilon for the championship. Despite the disappointing tie we are still able to
call ourselves the greekweek champions.
