Keys for Successful Study Habits For Home & School
At School:
| | | Listen carefully to be sure you understand and record all assignments correctly. |
| | | Do assignments when they are given. Don't fall behind. |
| | | Ask the teacher for help if you don't understand the work. |
| | | Join in class discussions. They will increase your knowledge. |
| | | For long term assignments, do a little each day. Don't wait until the last minute. |
| | | If you miss a class assignment during the school day, check with your teacher or classmate when you return to find out what you missed. |
| | | Put a next to the hardest homework assignment, so you remember to do that work first or second during your scheduled study time. |
| | | Put a next to your easiest homework assignment, so you know to do that last. |
| | | Make sure you have all books, notebooks, and worksheets before leaving school. |
| | | Maintain an organized desk and notebook at school. |
At Home:
| | | Set a regular time to study. Schedule this time around your other activities, but stick to the chosen time. |
| | | Pick a quiet place to sit at a desk or table to study, free from distractions. |
| | | Organize all the materials you will need before you begin. |
| | | Start off with regular homework, then do the hardest, and finish with the easiest. |
| | | Have a calendar at your study area. Mark the due dates for tests, projects, and reports. Remember to check your calendar daily and plan accordingly. |
| | | Put your book bag (with your homework, planner, and school books) in your designated "Drop Spot" immediately when you get home and return your book bag there after studying, so you always know where your belongings are. |
| | | Call your Study Buddy when you have a quick question or to review for a test. |
| | | Use positive self-talk "I can do this" to yourself when you start getting frustrated. |
| | | Check over your homework to make 2-3 corrections for each assignment. |
| | | Have parents, brothers or sisters check over your homework after you have checked it and made corrections. |
