Love at First Sight
Chapter 21
The next day arrived quickly. By 7am Jamie was up. She was so happy, her daughters first birthday. And of course since Jamie got up so did everyone else. Everybody would be arriving at 1. Nick, Brian, Jenny, Kevin, Jessi, Howie, Diana and AJ were the first to arrive around 12:00. Mostly because Nick was jumpy about meeting Jamie's family and they all wanted to help get things straightened out.
At 12:30 Jamie's family started to arrive. Mr. and Mrs. Montesano were the first. "Hey mom, hey daddy." Jamie said as she opened the door with the birthday girl in her arms. She gave her parents a hug and a kiss and handed Avery to her grandma just as Nick made his way to meet them. "Oh hey Nick. Mom, daddy, I'd like you to meet Nick, Nick this is my mother Eileen Montesano and my father John Montesano."
"Hello Nick. It's nice to meet you." Eileen said extending her free arm to shake Nick's.
"It's nice to meet you too Mrs. Montesano. It's nice to meet you as well Mr. Montesano."
"Please call me John. It's nice to meet you too Nick." Mr. Montesano replied turning his attention to his granddaughter.
Jamie was just about to shut the door when two cars pulled up. It was Ted, Lauren and Teddy in one car and in the other car it was Jamie's Aunt Mar, Uncle Brian and three younger cousins Kelly, Kaki, and Kevin.
"Hey you guys." Jamie called to them. Kevin ran up to Jamie and gave her a big hug. "I've missed these hugs so much." Jamie said as she picked him up off the ground. He's blonde hair had gotten a little darker and his eyes alit bluer, he was taller and had alittle more weight on him. But other then that he was the same little boy that Jamie saw everytime there was a holiday or birthday back home. "Wow look at you. You've gotten so big."
"Of course I have Jamie." Kevin said. "I'm almost 8 years old." He told her in he's small voice. He stuck out 8 of his little fingers as well and showed Jamie.
"Wow, just think, two years until you're gonna be two full hands." Jamie said. Kevin's face lit up. Jamie put Kevin down on his feet and greeted the rest of her family. "Hey girls. How are you two doing?" Jamie said giving her Kelly and Kacie a hug. Kelly hadn't changed much, but Kacie sure was taller. Jamie gave her Aunt and Uncle a hug and quickly realized that everyone's eyes were on Nick. "You guys, this is my good friend Nick." She said. She noticed Kelly was looking at her strangely, Jamie and her exchanged looks, the we'll-talk-later look. Nick was introduced to everybody and they made there way into the apartment. Almost everyone was there. The only people who were left to arrive were Jamie's Aunt Nancy, Nick, Shaun Marie, Jill and Nick's family, but they would be alittle late because Mr. Carter had to work until 3 o'clock.
By 4 o'clock everyone had arrived. There was tons of gifts for Avery. She was the center of attention. Everyone was getting along great. For dinner they ordered chinness food. When everyone was doen eating Jamie got up and started clearing the table and get the birthday cake ready. Kelly and Kacie got up to help, they thought this would be the perfect oppirtunity to get the info on Jamie and Nick.
"You two didn't have to come help me." Jamie said to them.
"Oh we know." Kelly told her.
"Yeah we wanted to." Kacie said backing up what Kelly said.
"Oh yeah? I bet there's another reason. Spill it you two."
"Well, we were just wondering about Nick. We know he's a Backstreet Boy, but is he really just a friend?" Kelly said in a talk show host voice.
"AHA, I knew you two were going to ask me these things. Well, you're old enough. 17 and 14. You're most likely dating now, I know I was. And yes Nick is my friend. He is my boyfriend and I love him lots."
"No way, my cousin is dating Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys." Kacie shirked getting all excited. "Just wait til I tell my friends."
"I know, wow."
"Oh no, you two can't tell anyone. I'm not sure if Nick wants this out in public. Can I trust you two?"
"Oh man, you mean we can't brag??" Kacie whined.
"Kacie stop it. We'll be able to brag, just not now." Kelly told her sister. "Yeah, you can trust us Jay. Don't worry."
"Alright, good. So how do you guys like him?" Jamie asked making her way to the freezer to get the ice cream cake out.
"He's awesome. Very funny. I definitley approve." Kelly said.
"His little brother is cute." Kacie announced.
"Oh yeah Kac?" Jamie asked her cousin studenly very interested in what she had to say.
"Yes, I think Aaron is cute, not to mention funny. But he's not my type. Plus I live in New Jersey and he lives here. It wouldn't work."
"Hmmm...I never knew you had a type Kacie." Kelly teased.
"Don't we all?" Jamie said sticking up for Kacie, she thought it was cute. "Kacie you have nothing to worry about. I'm sure you can get any 14 year old guy you wanted to. You could probably get any 17 year old guy too, but you're not going to be. The same with you Kelly. You two are probably driving your father crazy." Jamie always thought that her cousins were very pretty. Kacie alittle more then Kelly. Kacie had long silky blonde hair, chocolate brown eyes, fair skin, she was petite and very thin. Kelly looked more like Jamie, She had the light brown hair with natural blonde high lights and hazel eyes just like Jamie. Kelly had a trail of littley colored freckles going over her nose and across her cheeks. She was only alittle shorter then Jamie was. "You two be careful."
"We know Jay." Kelly assured her.
"Hey what are you girls doing in here, you got tons of people waiting for a piece of that yummy ice cream cake." Shaun Marie announced making her way into the kitchen.
"We're coming. We had to talk about a few things." Jamie told her close friend. Shaun Marie drove down for Avery's first birthday all the way from Centraville, Virgina. She told Jamie she wouldn't miss it for the world. Jamie and Shaun Marie were best friends from 7th grade to 9th grade, but grew to be more like sister. They didn't hang out 24/7 like they use to or constantly talk on the phone. Instead they were there for eachother when something happen, talked on the phone a few times a week, about everything and anything they could think of. They had a lot of great times together, and there's friendship had lasted a long time.
"Care to share?" Shaun Maire asked in her usual bubblie voice.
"We were talking about Nick." Kacie told her.
"Which one? Hildreth or Carter?" Having two Nick's in one apartment could be confusing. Jamie has known Nick Hildreth since the summer before freshmen year. Her and Daisha were down in Seaside Heights, New Jersey for a weekend with there boyfriends Gene and Rich and Nick was there with a few of his friends. They sat next to eachother on the beach and started talking. They became fast friends, talked on the phone and hung out a few times after that.
"Carter. Silly. What other Nick would these two be interested in knowing about." Jamie said teasing Kelly and Kacie.
"True true. Now come on, these people want some cake."
"Alright let's go."
The girls walked into the living room. Avery sat on Nick's lap as Jamie laid the cake in front of her. Lauren sat next to him with Teddy on her lap so he could see the burning candle. Everyone had their cameras out taking pictures of Avery's beautiful smiling face looking at her first birthday cake. Once the candle was out Avery dived into the cake. When she looked up she had cake all over her face and hands. After everyone had their cake they moved on to gifts. Avery gots tons of gifts. Jamie's parents got Avery a bank account and $10,000 to start out with, Ted, Lauren, and Teddy got Avery 10 little summer outfits and a pair of baby sandles. Aunt Mar, Uncle Brian, Kelly, Kacie, and Kevin got Avery a few outfits as well. The Carters got Avery a new bathing suit and some flouties for when she comes over. AJ and Diana got her a pair of sunglasses, a rub on tatoo that said 'baby love' on it and a Cat in the Hat hat that went right over Avery's little head. The list of stuff went on and on. It was a wonderful night full of laughs and surprises, but the biggest surprise was yet to come.
