Ricin Announcement, Propoganda? There was a series of arrests today concerning a group of South African people who were found to be producing the lethal chemical Ricin. This has sparked a huge uprising of concern regarding the imminent war on Iraq. Is this the stance to take? The chemical Ricin produces, among the symptoms, stomach pains, dizziness and diaorreah and then death. Death is occurent within two to five days and there is no antidote. Many scientists have said that the only way to use this type of chemical in warfare would be to deploy huge amounts of the chemical and preferably to inject it into the bloodstream. It is believed that Iraq have been producing this chemical as part of their biological warfare program and this is widely known throughout the country and the world. We at The Daily Squeegy ask: Is it not slightly alarming that the Army Reserves have been put on standby for war following this discovery, even though the suspects in the case have no relation to Iraq or even to the known active terrorist organizations? We believe that this may be a case of propoganda which is needed to get the British public to back a war which is senseless in every way. Many people have stated the same stance, that George W. Bush is trying to cover up the fact that he couldn't do anything against Osama Bin Laden so he has shifted the attention to the usual scapegoat, Saddam Hussein. Can a war be manufactured? This is a question which raises some concern. 'Wag The Dog', a film featuring Robert De Niro and Dustin Hoffman had many scenes that resembled a certain conflict in Afghanistan, even down to the President's squeeze in the film, who resembled Monica Lewinsky to a frightening degree. We believe that war can be manufactured in many ways, it just depends on the reasons behind it and whether the officials in the matter can convince the public that they are acting in a just way. 11th of September is still a horrible memento for us all. There are people we need to fight. We don't need to fight a war to keep face for a nation still growing into their suits, or a leader who is trying to avenge his father. Don't listen to the propoganda. Believe in human rights. |
