I've always thought that ladder basically sucked ass, because everyone cheated, in one form or another. In an effort to determine whether the bnet ladder is/was as corrupt as I thought, I decided to do a little laddering myself.

In order to see how many players were cheating, I needed to be able to see what they were doing. I went out and searched for a working maphack. gamethreat.com has a variety of tools available, and I downloaded Warcrap 4.0, created by Drakken.

At this point some may question my ethics. I understand, however my goal was information, not ladder ratings or any other such nonsense. I used the trainer for every ladder game. I would like to state that I only used it for the ladder games. I have never cheated in any non-ladder games.

After a few games, I realized that anyone I played who I believed was legit shouldnt have to suffer a loss because of my advantage. I thus left any game where I felt none of the opponents were cheating. I apologize to anyone who is a legit player that I gave a ladder loss.

So many players refuse to play someone with a good ladder record, and ban you if you try to join their game, especially if you have a few disconnects. I devised a trick to get ladder games. The Warcrap 4.0 has a name spoof, which allows you to put in any name you wish, and when you join/create a game you appear as that name. I went through the various WAR2BNE USA public channels and looked for ladder players with a decent rating but more than a few losses. I then used their nicks in ladder games so I wouldnt get banned. An unfortunate side effect was that I got a loss and a disconnect whenever the game was done, even when I won. So after a while I ended up with a record of 15-13-12 or something; So of course people thought I disconnected on purpose. I have disconnected from 2-3 games on purpose, and I regret doing so.

I found an interesting quote by wulfgar, bnet aka wulf@loner. I found it to be remarkably accurate;

Its sort of interesting when you hack , and you know hte other player is hacking, and they know your hacking too. Its like they group there men or line up right before you hit, or they dont send scouting peons until you actually expand. Thats a big way I could tell when people were hacking against me, because they would have no grunts patrolling any mines or anything, and they scout the mines maybe one time the entire game, unless of course I expanded, than they would send a unit to my expansions, or send out a couple. You cant prove they hack, you can KNOW they hack though.

I think the most ironic thing I've found is watching a person blatantly hack and then act self righteous. I've had people call me a hacker and deny it themselves, when it is clear they are hacking as well. I've been insulted, threatened, disced on when a hacker is losing.. A great deal of cheaters are hypocrites.
