Former Communist Republic of
Layerfield 10-5 Former Democratic Republic of Layerfield
Despite not having a goal keeper,
Communist Layerfield dominated this 5 a-side. Throughout the match all
of their players took their turn between the sticks and all did very
well.
3 players scored 4 goals in this game,
Dan Harris, Paul Sims and Karl Horspool. Dan's goals leaves him just 1
off his milestone 40th Layerfield goal.
Mark Ager was not as impressive in
goal as he usually is and Steve Suckling and Tony Warren failed to score
for the Democratic team.
Dave Canning didn't score for the
Communists, but James Kennerley and Martyn Ager added a goal each to
those of Paul and Karl.
Layerfield are no ready for a rematch
with FC Braintree

Layerfield United 12-4 Layerfield
City
Layerfield United dominated the whole
of this match, and notched up Layerfield's highest ever margin of
victory. The majority of their goals came from Dan Harris (6) and Steve
Suckling (4), although both of these players missed more chances than
they scored. But thanks the the defensive ability of Martyn Ager and the
stunning form of his brother Mark in goal these multiple misses didn't
matter.
It could be said that Layerfield City
missed Dave Canning, who injured himself on a climbing frame. His
replacement Danny Macklin found it hard to get involved in the game.
Perhaps this is because of the overall improvement of the Layerfield
squad and their knowledge of each others' footballing minds. However,
Danny was presented with many chances but failed to register his name on
the score sheet. Danny was one of the better players when we played our
first 5 a-side, so this shows how far we have come over the space of a
couple of months.
Paul Palfrey did his best in goal for
City, but was let down my the attacking motives of his team mates. On
many occasions Tony Warren was left alone to deal with Steve, James
Kennerley and Dan attacking for United. Again, Dave Canning's ability to
defend and attack was missed.
Adam Canning had another good game,
but was not so prolific in front of goal, he only managed to score
twice. As did Paul Sims who was also not on the top of his game.
During the evening Dan Harris scored
his 30th goal for the club and then went on to overtake Paul Sims as
Layerfield's leading scorer. James Kennerley was unable to add to his
goal tally but defender Martyn Ager scored United's other 2 goals.
Tony Warren won the shootout at the
start of the match and became the first player to win back-to-back man
of the match awards, however he didn't turn in a performance worthy of
winning the award a third time running!

Real Layerfield 13-8 Athletico Layerfield
This game was all about Paul Sims and records being broken. Paul had his
scoring boots on and hit 10 amazing goals. This is a new record for the
amount of goals scored in a game. He also took his club goal tally to
31, the first player to score more than 30 goals. During the course of
the night Paul overtook Dan Harris as the club’s leading scorer.
7 of Paul’s goals came in the first half, at half
time Real Layerfield lead 8-2. Adam Canning had added the other Real
goal and James Kennerley and Dan Harris had scored for Real. Dan’s goal
was the best of the evening, James found Steve Suckling in space on the
left and he drew Tony Warren away from Dan. Steve then produced a lovely
ball over Warren for Dan to volley with his first touch past Paul
Palfrey. It would have won any goal of the month competition.
Athletico Layerfield turned things round and actually
won the second half 6-5. James Kennerley completed his first hat trick
for the club and Steve Suckling scored with a toe-punt into the bottom
corner. Dan Harris scored another 3 to take his total to 29, 1 of his
milestone 30 goals.
The Canning brothers scored a goal each in the second
half and Paul Simms added 2 more. All credit must go to Paul Palfrey and
Tony Warren who, on many occasions, stopped Athletico Layerfield from
scoring. Mark Ager had another good game, increasing his chances of
taking the number 1 shirt from Paul Palfrey in the future. Martyn Ager
went close a few times but spent most of the game defending his
brother’s goal.
Two other thing to note during the game were Steve
Suckling putting the ball through a basketball net (the first time this
has happened) and Paul Palfrey throwing Dan’s shoe through the same net
after it had left his foot following a fierce shot.

Sunday 2nd June - Layerfield
Tournament 2002
Layerfield A 1-2 Camulodunum War Gods
Layerfield went into this game
expecting it to be easy. How wrong could they be? The War Gods settled
down very quickly and were soon out playing LFC. They scored 2 very good
goals and also had 2 ruled out, 1 for being in the area and another that
spectators said went wide but may have found a hole in the net just
inside the post. Dan Harris scored a late consolation goal; he had also
missed many chances created by Steve Suckling’s unselfish play.
Layerfield B 3-3 Camulodunum War
Gods
The War Gods carried on from where they left off, never
giving LFC a second to think when they had possession. However, the
impressive Adam Canning was again on fine form and his skilful play
earned him 2 goals. They put the scores level at 2-2. Dave Canning then
hit a screamer into the top corner with 45 seconds to go……….but the War
Gods scored straight from the re-start giving them a 4 point total in
the league.
Layerfield A 2-5
Layerfield B
The battle of the ‘Field. After taking an early lead
(Steve Suckling put the ball through Dave Canning’s legs and finished
well past Palfrey) the A team let the B team take control. But only so
they would go on and win the league. (No really they were the best team
on the night, and there was no match fixing in existence!)
Tony Warren was rewarded with the man of the evening award for his solid
display in defence for the B team.

2nd Camulodunum War Gods 4pts GD +1

Layerfield Rangers 17-12 Layerfield Celtic
The Rangers stormed to a 5-0 lead and never fell behind
during the hour and 10 minutes play. Top scorer for Rangers was Dan
Harris. His 8 goals leaves him as the club's leading scorer and he now
holds the record for number of goals scored in 1 game. Well done Dan!
Steve Suckling scored 4 and Dave Canning contributed 3
goals. Martyn Ager added another. Paul Palfrey had a good game, and kept
a clean sheet for 20 minutes.
Layerfield Celtic were lacking in defensive players as everyone except
Tony Warren looked to move forward. Tony made many tackles and helped
keep the score down, he also got his name on the score sheet once.
Paul Simms had another good night, scoring 6 goals and Adam Canning
added 4. Once again James Kennerley got his customary 1 goal.
This weeks own goal was scored by Paul Palfrey as he pushed the ball
into his net after it had hit the wall and was rolling slowly along the
floor!
Man of the match: Dan Harris (web vote
winner)

Bayern Layerfield 12-9 1860
Layerfield
Once again the team who scored the first goal of the
evening never fell behind, and in this case held the lead for the whole
60 minutes. Bayern were 3-0 up quite early on. Mark Ager let his
brother's first shot under his body and this seemed to show which team
would have luck on their side.
As the 3 specators
commented, 1860 had probably twice as many shots as Bayern, but Bayern
were much more clinical infront of goal. Especially Dan Harris who was
top scorer on the evening with 6 goals. He now draws level with Paul
Simms as the clubs leading scorer with 15 goals each. Steve Suckling is
hot on their heals with 12 goals to his name.
Adam Canning had another good game and found the back of the net 4
times. Paul Simms failed to live up to past performances and only scored
3.
James Kennerley got
his customary 1 goal, but this time it was in the wrong goal. The first
Layerfield player to score an own goal, I hope you are proud James -
first goalscorer and first own goal scorer!!
Man of
the match: Martyn Ager (web vote winner)
Sunday 28th April 2002
Inter Layerfield 12-11 AC
Layerfield
Inter Layerfield came out on top after another close
internal friendly. Their 2 new signings added depth to the team, Adam
Canning bagged 5 goals and Mark Ager had a superb debut in goal.
Steve Suckling
completed an early hat-trick and scored another late goal after he had
wasted multiple other chances. Dave Canning scored 2 and James Kennerley
got his customary 1 goal.
AC Layerfield never
gave up, despite being 2 goals behind within 4 minutes. Paul Simms and
Dan Harris again combined well scoring 5 and 4 goals respectively.
Martyn Ager scored twice against his brother and Tony Warren put a 20
yard drive just wide of the post. As usual, Paul Palfrey made many good
saves.

March 2002
Layerfield C 15-14 Layerfield G
Layerfield Cs made an excellent
start and were 5-0 up after just 15 minutes. The G team never quite
recovered, many times coming to 1 goal behind, but were never able to
draw level.
Pual Simms and Dan Harris formed a
formidable strike partnership and netted 10 goals between them, while
Paul Palfrey had another superb game between the sticks.
Dave Canning netted 5 goals for his
side, but Steve Suckling scored the goal of the evening with a 30 yard
drive from inside his own half!
Sunday 2nd December 2001
FC Braintree 10-5 Layerfield
Layerfield's goals came from
Dave Canning (2), Dan Harris, Tony Warren and Steve Suckling.
Layerfield let in 7 goals in the last half hour, having been in front by
5 goals to 3. This was a much improved performance by Layerfield, who
seem to be growing in confidence with every game played.
Tom Marshall scored his 50th
goal for FC Braintree during the match. Well done Tom!
Man of the match: Paul

Sunday 28th October 2001
FC Braintree 8-1 Layerfield
This 11 a-side fixture was
re-arranged quickly having been called off the previous week due to FC
Braintree's all weather pitch being un-playable!
Layerfield again took the lead
having played out a dull first 40 minutes. The well taken goal came from
debutant Paul Sims. However, as in the previous match, Layerfield began
to fall apart and were losing by half time.
FC Braintree continued to
dominate the game in the second half, and ran out 8-1 winners.
Man of the match: Dave

Sunday 14th October 2001
FC Braintree 14-3 Layerfield
In their first competitive
match, Layerfield raced to an early 2-0 lead. however, this was as best
as things got as FC Braintree took charge of the game. Towards the final
whistle Danny Macklin added to earlier goals from James Kennerley and
Martyn Ager.
