Layerfield were formed in October 2001 in order to provide
opposition for local side FC Braintree. Although the result
suggests otherwise, the first match was a great success and it
was decided to keep the club going.
Layerfield's players are all based in Essex and support
Gillingham or Colchester United. This is how the name Layerfield
was created. Colchester play at LAYER Road and Gillingham
play at the PreistFIELD Stadium.
The name Layerfield is the copyright of Tom Marshall, 2001.
