English Sports
Cross-Country: Cross-country courses include various types of obstacles. The difficulty of the obsticles is based on the level of competition. Riders familiarize themselves with these by walking the course before the event. Endurance: Competitive trail rides are races against the clock to see who can finish closest to a predetermined time. Soundness, condition, manners, or way of going are other criteria considered. Endurance rides are races to see who can finish first while remaining sound and healthy. Both comprise distance riding where horses and riders complete routes up to one hundred miles or more 3-Day Eventing: One the first day, a dressage test determines how well horse and rider can communicate and respond. One the second day, Cross-country courses include various types of obstacles. The difficulty of the obsticles is based on the level of competition. Riders familiarize themselves with these by walking the course before the event. And finally, a concluding stadium jumping round shows how much control and stamina is in reserve. While the jumps are not particularly difficult by Gran Prix standards, they still present a challenge for horses and riders after the grueling cross-country competition of the previous day English Pleasure: Dressage: Dressage a French word for "training," describes the process of schooling a horse to respond obediently and effortlessly to its rider's commands. Competitive dressage is judged on how well entrants perform certain movements, (much as a figure skater is scored on compulsory movements) while exhibition dressage is the spectacle of the ultimate communication between horse and rider. Hunter Jumper: Polo: With a powerful stroke, a player drives the ball down field. He and his teammate gallop in pursuit, trying to avoid their opponents' attempts to stop their attack and gain possession of the ball. Bursts of speed, tight turns, bone-jarring contact, teamwork-that is the essence of polo, one of the world's oldest and fastest games. Hack: This is basicly just english trail riding. Fox Hunting: Much tradition and protocol surrounds fox hunting. The staff consists of the Master of Foxhounds and the Huntsman, assisted by Whippers-In who control the hounds. The field is led by a Field Master followed by experienced fox hunters, with guests and young riders at the rear. Any breed or type of horse or pony may be used. The only requirements are good manners, stamina, and the ability to jump fences, stone walls, and other natural obstacles. : : : :
