Of Dutch Ways

Holland... this small European country ...

  • has one quarter of its land below sea level.
  • has about 1000 traditional working windmills.
  • is one of the smallest countries in the world, but is the third largest agricultural exporter after the USA and France.
  • has a coalition government, which makes it a country of compromises.
  • has the 2nd world's largest seaport in Rotterdam.
  • has people who eat raw herring with onions.
  • is where you find twice as many bikes as cars and at least 9000 miles of bike paths.
  • is where the tallest people in Europe live. They have to look over the dikes.
  • is where most people speak at least one foreign language in addition to Dutch.
  • is where you find a bouquet of flowers in almost every living room.
  • is where people eat chocolate sprinkles "hagelslag" on their bread for breakfast.
  • is where the people's favorite candy is a salty licorice called "drop"
  • of which the capital, Amsterdam, is built entirely on pilings.
  • is where you have to eat a "kroketten," or you haven't really been there.

The Holland Club of New Orleans ....

invites you to become a member . Whomever you are, if you have the slightest interest in Holland, you will be welcomed into an environment by citizens of Holland , as well as friends and natives of Dutch descent , who still have an active interest in the Netherlands. The Holland Club was established almost a half century ago. We organize several social events during the year such as picnics, coffee meetings, BBQ’s and potlucks. The highlight of the year is our Christmas gathering in a local restaurant or in a private home. We announce these meetings in our NEWSLETTER and inform you about important issues that could concern you as a Dutch friend living in the States.
