What I'm doing now

At the time of construction of this web site (Feb 98), I have no idea if any one will remember me, or look at this site who used to be on HMS Fife. I guess all these years later, most members of the ships crew will have gone on to civvy street. How ever I did that very same thing back in 1980, and have been on the internet a couple of years now. I tried putting HMS Fife in to some of the search engines , but they came up a blank, so this is my effort to remedy that.

I joined the Navy virtually straight from school (July 1975), with my best school mate Brian Hackforth. We were amongst the last to join at HMS Ganges (a shore base at Shotley Gate, near Ipswich). From there we went on to HMS Sultan (at Gosport, in Hampshire) to do our engineering training. My first ship was HMS Kent (another County class destroyer), I have fewer photos from HMS Kent, but given a bit more time I will put some of those on this site. After I left the Kent I had a while up in Scotland, before going on to join the Fife.

After leaving the Navy I had a few small jobs, such as taking photo's in Santa's Grotto in a local department store, packing cauliflower at a frozen food factory.

In 1981, I became a Postman with Royal Mail. 17 years later I am still with the Post Office, only now as a First line manager in a Delivery office. I married Jayne in 1984, and Robert our son was born in 1988.
