Great Dalby: A walk in an English village
Entering the village

Where?

This is a short pictorial trip to the village of Great Dalby, in Leicestershire, England (52N, 0W), which lies about three miles south of the market town of Melton Mowbray.

When?

This is also now something of a step back in time. The site you see has now been on the web (at one location or another) for over 10 years - it was the the village's first appearance on the Internet!. As for the photographs themselves, they were taken in 1984 ( by Vivienne Birch, who was brought up in the village).

However in all honesty not much changes. If you were to visit the village today there you would find the Post Office closed, a few more houses here and there, and rather a lot more cars (the roads seem very empty in these pictures!) - but essentially it is the same village it was when Vivienne and her husband-to-be stepped out that bright Autumn morning nearly twenty years ago camera in hand...
