"Your Opinions Are Important" by Pat Binns dated the Fall 1996
In addition to traveling to all 27 districts on P.E.I., Pat Binns has established three policy research initiatives for Islanders for the future. The three groups will deal with Economic Development & Financial Affairs, Health & Education and the Government Accountability to Islanders. The committees are chaired by Wes MacAleer, Dr. Gary Morgan, and the Hon Pat Mella. Each group is comprised of nine members of the PC Caucus with representation from every region on the Island . They will continue to meet organizations and individuals that have real concerns and suggestions about how government can better serve the people of P.E.I.. I welcome and encourage you to make your voice heard.
Also, we have held a series of briefing sessions with key leaders from business, labour, agriculture, fisheries, health and education. I view it as essential to good government, that I have a true appreciation of what Islanders view as the challenges and opportunities that exist in the years ahead. one of the recurring themes that has become apparent from these discussions is that governments lack willingness to listen or initiate discussion among stakeholders, is resulting in lost dollars, services and opportunities. I would suggest that the first step in resolving a problem, is to speak with people that understand the issues and can put forth real solutions.
