Scream- 1996

DIRECTOR-Wes Craven STARRING- David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, Matthew Lillard, Rose McGowan, Skeet Ulrich and Drew Barrymore
"There are certain rules that one must abide by in order to successfully survive a horror movie. For instance, number one: you can never have sex. Sex equals death, okay? Number two: you can never drink or do drugs. The sin factor. It's a sin - it's an extension of number one. And number three, never ever ever - under any circumstances - say 'I'll be right back!' - 'cause you won't be back." "I'm getting another beer, ya want one?" "Yeah, sure." "I'll be right back!"

The story concerns a high school student from a small town called Woodsboro named Sidney Prescott and her friends. There is a psycho killer bumping off all of Sid's friends in strangely imaginative ways, and she finds herself inexorably linked to solving the killer's identity. I am not giving anything away on this one so you will just have to rent it!

Scream, the groundbreaking teen horror movie directed by Wes Craven. Seen by many as populising horror after it's long spell in the background, it is in no doubt that Scream has been one of the main influential movies of the 90's for our beloved horror genre. I feel Scream's success lies in the fact that the characters are immensely likeable, and they are ones that we can relate to. In particular the police officer Dewey (David Arquette) and Sidney (Neve Campbell). Also the film is, a parody of itself and other hugely successful horror films, for example, alluding to movies such as "Prom Night" and the brilliant and classic Halloween. It is full of incredibly gruesome deaths including the particularly grisly murder of Drew Barrymore, (although some people might say that was a good thing...)

Scream keeps the audience guessing right until the end and has it's fair share of suspense.

Although, in a way there has been a Scream "overkill" it still remains an action packed and groundbreaking classic.

Scream 2-1997
DIRECTOR ~ Wes Craven STARRING ~ David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jamie Kennedy, Jerry 'O Connell, Jada Pinkett, Liev Schreiber
Away at college, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) thought she had finally put the shocking murders that shattered her life behind her, until a copycat killer comes to town and begins acting out a real life sequel. Running parallel to this story is the rather strange but brilliant idea of a "parody within a parody" seen in "Stab". This is a movie within a movie, a parody of the events of the original film. Although Scream 2 received a bad reception and was given negative reviews, I feel this was largely unjustified. It comes very close to the original and also stands in a class of it's own as a stylish horror movie. Many characters from the first Scream movie such as Dewey, Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers return and star in one of the best horror sequels I have seen in a long time (apart from Re-animator 2.

Scream 3- 2000

DIRECTOR~ Wes Craven ~ STARRING ~ Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courtney Cox, Parker Posey

Any slasher fan knows that you can't keep a good psycho down, and it's no exception with Wes Craven's latest offering in the Scream saga, "Scream 3". Perennial survivor Sidney, has locked herself away as a virtual recluse (quite understandably). Haunted and withdrawn she changed her identity and worked from home on a help line for troubled women. Everything seems to be fine, until while working she recieves a strange phone call from another grudge-holding murderer, the identity of whom I shall leave in question. There are also several gory murders (as per usual) It's not too long until Sidney is dragged back into the fray, seemingly not just to aid the police investigation, but to confront her own demons also. The other survivors featured in the film, David Arquette (Dewey) is working as an advisor to the "film within a film" Stab 3and Courtney Cox as Gale Weathers up to her usual tricks.

Stab 3 plays a central part in this film, as it soon becomes clear that Ghostface is disposing of the movie's charaters in the order that they die in the screenplay. There are also two of each character in the film, for example Parker Posey playing Courtney Cox's double. Cameos featured in the film include Dogmas' Jay and Silent Bob, and a posthumous Randy in quite a cheesy scene where he gives the sequel rules stating in serious tones, "all bets are off..."

Despite Randy's promise, Scream 3 is rather disappointing in "shock" value. One of the great things about the first two films is that the characters know all the horror rules, yet we see them getting skewered despite this. In Scream 3, they make all of the classic mistakes that they looked upon with such scorn previously. In this way, it is in danger of becoming parodied rather than a parody. It still is hugely entertaining and the film maker's obvious enthusiasm shines through.
