My Colts Shrine
This page is dedicated to the History of the Indianapolis Colts. It will be filled with all of the good and bad memories that you may or may not still have. It is my shrine to the Indianapolis Colts. It is currently Under Construction. Many of you know me as CA, from NFL message Boards.
When Did I become a Colts Fan?
I became a Colts fan when I was nine years old in 1984, the same year the Colts moved to Indianapolis. I guess that it was just perfect timing as I was born and raised in southern Indiana. Most of my friends were Dallas Cowboy fans, Miami Dolphin fans, Chicago Bears fans, or Raiders fans. In 1984 I watched every game that was televised and listened to the games that were not televised on the radio and I haven't missed a game since. In 1992 I visited the then called Hoosier Dome for the first time against the Miami Dolphins. As I walked up the stairs to my seat in gate 4, I was shell shocked by the beauty of the field. It was so beautiful, I had to stop as it took a moment to sink in.
Who is my favorite player ever?
I guess that would depend on the decade that you asked me that question. In the 80's it was Bill Brooks, in the 90's it was Jeff Herrod, and in the new millennium it is Marvin Harrison. Bill Brooks will always have a special place in my heart because he was a true talent to the game and he never bitched about anything. He could have been a superstar on another team as he showed when he ended his career in Buffalo, but he never asked to be traded. He was talent, heart, and loyalty all in one and you will not find all those qualities in very many players in the entire history of the game. Jeff Herrod became a personal favorite of mine as soon as I found out that he was Mr. T’s cousin. Who didn’t like Mr. T back then? I soon realized who Jeff Herrod was though as he led our team in tackles nearly every year and became the heart and soul of the Colts defense. The always overlooked, by Pro Bowl balloters, Herrod got what I call his justice in 1995, when we put together a magical season and came just inches from advancing to the super bowl on a Hail Mary from Jim Harbaugh to Aaron Bailey. I know that we would have beaten Dallas in that Super Bowl too as we beat them the next year with 17 injured players. I will never forget how furious I was when we were down 10 points to the Cowboys early and Harbaugh was sacked and fumbled the ball right into the hands of Deion Sanders and he ran it back for a touchdown putting us down by 17 as he did his primetime dance. I will also never forget what Jim Harbaugh said in an interview on the field seconds after we came roaring back and beat the Cowboys, “Deion did his dancing earlier. We are doing our dancing now. It would have been a great Super Bowl.” Marvin Harrison is the best wide receiver that I have ever seen play the game period. I sure am glad that the Bears took Curtis Conway a few picks ahead of us.
