Important Facts

Using birth control may make sex responsible, but it will not protect you from emotional hurts. The failure rate in pregnancy protection is high for teens and it offers limited protection for STD's (sexually transmited diseases) There is only some protection for body fluid STD's and none for skin to skin diseases. Also there is a 30% failure rate for aids.

Professionals give a mixed message. They do not stress the failure rate of birth control which gives teens a false sense of security.

Pill failure rate is 11% in teens. (since it is your most fertile time in life) Many drugs you take into your body (such as nicotine) neutralizes the effectiveness of the pill. It also needs to be taken every day, without missing a day.

This means that for every 100 girls having sex for one year while being on the pill, 11 will get pregnant. For the second year 22 will get pregnant.

Condom failure rate is 18%. For 100 people having sex using a condom for the first year, 18 of them will end up with either an STD or a pregnancy, or maybe even both.

All the sperm required to repopulate the entire world can fit inside an aspirin tablet. 85,000 sperm can 'danse' on the tip of a pencil. 230 million HIV virus can fit on that same tip of the pencil.

Sperm are not only released at orgasm. Men produce an average of 50 million sperm a day. Sperm can be found in lubricating fluids during arousal. If any contact is made in the vaginal area, it is very posible that she could become pregnant. BY the time the condom is used it may already be too late.
