On the Fall issue of the Coral Reef IB Newspaper, IBIS Connections, "4 My Students, Inc." was featured in one of their articles. On September 28, 2002, 24 volunteers rushed the "4 My Students,Inc." store and all pitched in to help put the store together, paint on the walls and stock donates suuplies.
Titled "Crayons, Atlases and Scissors," the article explained the purpose, origin and goals of the program as well as raised awareness in the student faculty.
Here's a list of the volunteers that have helped the "4 My Students,Inc." organization:
which decribed the program as a dream for teachers.
On January 18, 2003, "4 My Students, Inc." opened it's doors for the first time to Region VI elementary teachers.Teachers had been waiting and hour before the store opened begging to be let in before the crowd. Before the store was even opened about 15 teachres were lined up outside.
They were finally allowed to "shop" around 11 AM.There was a very good showing, about 50 teachers were able to shop from three different Region VI elementary schools; Caribeean Elementary, Acovado Elementary, and Cutler Ridge Elementary.
The opening day was a complete success.Teachers walked out with three large shopping bags filled with supplies. They were ecstatic about the amount of supplies they received and about the store itself.
A system was put into effect for the teachers.Student volunteers were assigned to a teacher was they arrived at the store. The volunteers assisted the teacher around the store and collected the designated supplies. Each teacher was to a receive a certain amount of everything from homework trays, staplers, tape, paper, pens, pencils, notepads, ETC ETC to bookshelves, desks, marker boards, toys, kleenex boxes and books.
