Entry #1 - Earthquakes The topic that I will be following is earthquakes. The reason that I chose to follow earthquakes is because of the major recent activity of earthquakes in the last month. Some of the major earthquakes caused devastating damage in some of the countries they hit. The issue of earthquakes will probably never be solved ever but can only be predicted when the next quake will occur. Earthquakes are deadly and continue to be researched daily. I don't need to know more about this topic, but would like to learn more about earthquakes in general and wouldn't mind entering a career that involves them. I currently don't know much about earthquakes. The education I have had on them has been from school and reading news articles. Some of the common knowledge on earthquakes is that they are measured in magnitude with a machine called a seismograph by a scientist called a seismologist. Earthquakes usually occur because of tectonic plate shifting in the earth's crust. The information I have learned about earthquake has been gradually growing though school teachings and reading on the internet when big earthquakes occur, and it will continue to grow with future incidents that occur. I plan to learn more on earthquakes through this assignment. I hope to learn more of the common knowledge and safety precautions that earthquake heavy areas take to prevent damage. I also would like to learn more about how earthquakes can be predicted and avoided. Another interesting thing that I would like to learn about is how buildings are constructed in earthquake areas so they can endure the shakes. By the end of this project I hope to have learned more than the average person knows about earthquakes and maybe a little about the science behind them.
