*Ring, Ring......Ring, Ring*
Shannon hurried to the phone. "Hello?"
"Hey. What's up?"
"Not much. Who are you?"
"Shannon! I can't believe you don't remember!"
Shannon was confused. She did not recognize the voice at all.
"I'm sorry. I don't know who you are." She was just ready to hang up the phone....when she realized who it was.
"It's me...Justin!"
Shannon's mouth dropped. She couldn't believe him.
"Justin...why in the heck are you calling me?" Shannon was growing upset. "Why didn't you call?!" she asked, growing quiet.
"Good-bye Shannon. I promise I'll call you as soon as I get there. Don't worry about me." Justin kissed her one last time before getting in the car.
"I was going to. When I got there...there was not a single phone around!"
"And you couldn't have found a phone? I gave you three years!"
"I'm sorry. Believe me...I wanted to call!"
"So why didn't you?"
"I told you! There wasn't a pho-"
Shannon hung up the phone. 'I can't believe him' she thought to herself.
"I love you Shannon. We'll always be together, forever. I promise." Justin kissed her on the forehead, just as she was falling asleep.
She picked up the phone and quickly dialed Jess's number.
"Hello?"
"Jess? Is it okay if I come over? I really need to talk to you."
"Yeah, sure. What's wrong?" Jess asked, becoming worried at the sound of Shannon's voice.
"I'll be there in five minutes."
"Just be careful" Jess told her.
"I will. See ya soon."
Shannon hung up the phone and hurried upstairs to changed. She grabbed her keys and left.
*Ring, Ring....Ring, Ri-*
"Shannon?" Jess asked, answering the phone.
"No, it's me." It was Taylor, Jess's boyfriend.
"Oh...hey. What's up?"
"Um....you haven't talked to Shannon lately, have you?" Taylor asked.
"She's gonna be here in five minutes. Why?" Jess was becoming confused.
"She isn't going to be at her house then, is she?"
"No, why? Why are you so worried about her?"
"Can I come over to explain it? Long story."
"If you can get here before Shannon."
"Okay. See ya soon."
"Bye."
Shannon wiped a tear from her eye. She was trying her hardest to concentrate on the road. She flipped her visor mirror down to fix her mascara. She didn't realize she was swivering into the other lane....that had an oncoming semi.
"Come in Tay" Jess called from her living room. Taylor walked in and sat down next to her. "Now why are you so worried?"
"Do you remember Justin? Shannon's ex?"
"Is that the one who never called?" she asked. Taylor nodded his head. "He was a jerk."
There was an ackward silence. "What about Justin now?"
"He's back in town. He wants to talk to Shannon. He was gonna stop at her house. He should be there about now." he said, looking at his watch.
"How do you know this?" Jess asked, curiously.
Taylor hesitated. Then responded queitely..."He's my roomy."
Justin pulled up next to Shannon's house. He took a deep breath and opened his door. He hurried to the door and rang the doorbell. No one answered. He rang it again...still....no answer. He ran back to his car a scribbled a note. He walked up to the door and put the note between the doors. He rang the doorbell once more...then walked back to his car.
"Is anyone hurt?" "I think there's someone in the car." "We need a paramedic over here! She looks pretty bad!"
"Where's Shannon at? She called half an hour ago." Jess started to worry.
"Maybe she stopped at her parent's house." Taylor suggested. "Maybe you should try calling there."
Jess thought for a moment. "Yeah okay." She picked up the phone. It rang twice before someone answered.
"Hello?" asked a voice that sounded tired, sad, and almost as if they had been crying.
"Hi, Sally? This is Jessica. Shan-"
"Jess?! I'm so glad you called." There was a pause and Jessica heard a sniffle. "Shannon was in a car accident." Jess turned white. She couldn't believe it.
"Huh? How did this happen?" Is she okay?" Jess asked. Hundreds of questions were going through her head.
"We don't know how it happened yet. Me and her father were just on our way to the hospital. You wanna meet us there?"
"Yeah..okay. I'll be there as soon as I can."
"Okay. Jess?"
"Yeah?"
"Drive safely."
"Okay. Good-bye." Jess hung up the phone. Taylor grew worried.
"What? What's wrong?"
"Shannon was in a car accident." Jess said, staring at the floor.
"Is she okay?"
"I don't know. Can you drive me to the hospital?"
"Of course."
"I'm gonna go change. I'll be ready in five minutes." Jess hurried up the stairs. Taylor thought for a moment, staring at the phone. He decided he needed to make a call. He was on the phone no more than two minutes when Jess came down. He quickly hung it up.
"Who were you talking to?" Jess asked, coming down the stairs.
"Oh..I was..uh..telling my my parents....what happened."
"Oh, okay. Ready? I wanna get there as soon as possible." she said, wiping a tear from her cheek.
"Are you gonna be okay?" Taylor asked, giving her a hug.
"I don't know. I keep thinking about how much she means to me. She's been my best friend since our freshman year in highschool."
"Come on. Let's go." Taylor opened the front door and led her to her car.
