Melissa
Perry
Melissa
Perry is a teen vocalist and multi-instrumentalist originally from Deer
Lake, Newfoundland, but now living in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. She
has been involved in music since childhood; some of her earliest memories
are of singing Dolly Parton songs to the accompaniment of a toy guitar.
When travelling back and forth from Newfoundland, she would often ask the
acts playing aboard the ferry if she could join them onstage for a song.
More often than not, they'd oblige.
Melissa
is an accomplished vocalist, having studied with many of Northeastern Nova
Scotia's finest instructors. She's been a member of church and school choirs
since the age of five, and studying piano from the age of seven. She has
performed at variety concerts, coffeehouses, fundraisers, and as a soloist
with her high school's jazz band. She is a gifted pianist; who has
twice been awarded medals for the highest standing in the province from
Conservatory Canada. She's also learning the guitar and violin on
the side.
Melissa's
personal performance highlights include participating in local fine arts
showcases, performing the national anthem at local sporting events, and
serving as opening act for Nova Scotia singer/songwriter Jon Matthews'
album launch concert. She was a backing vocalist for Matthews' studio
sessions, and the two have begun performing together on a regular basis.
Melissa
has also begun writing her own songs, and has already had one of her songs
on-the-air, at a local radio station. She continues to hone her skills
as a writer, and hopes to one day record an album. For the time being,
she is enjoying life as a performing musician.
Melissa's
musical influences are largely rooted in country music; she counts Deana
Carter, The Dixie Chicks, and Faith Hill among her favourite artists. However,
her diverse interests also encompass a wide variety of genres, from rock
to jazz to pop.
