Chapter 2

When I neared room 548, I heard this buzzing sound. Like the ones you hear on those doctor shows that mean that the patients dead. Then all of a sudden I heard ‘Code Blue, call surgery, tell em were comin up!’ I was worried. Then my heart skipped a beat when I saw them wheel out my lifeless Grandma on a stretcher. They headed in the opposite direction. I started to chase after them. Suddenly I accidentally ran into this guy standing outside of his room. “Watch where your going next time, will ya?” he said. “Sorry,” I said. I didn’t look up cause I was in such a hurry. The voice sounded so familiar though. I could hear him following me. “Where ya going anyway?” he asked. “None of your business,” I said angrily. I was stopped by 2 nurses. “Sorry, you can’t pass here. I can guide you back to the waiting area though,” said the one nurse. “That’s ok,” I said. I turned around and saw the man following me. It was none other than the one I was so familiar with. I had heard him sing in the car and on the radio. It was my lover, Brian Littrell of the Backstreet Boys. I stopped dead in my tracks. I tried to manage a ‘How come you never told me who you were?’ but was stuck with a studderly “Uh, Hi.” “Hello,” he said. I never knew how polite he was. “Can I do something for you? Anything?” His southern accent was still strong. “Um, only if you can get my Grandma back.” “That was your Grandma?” “Yeah.” “I’m sorry. What happened?” I usually wouldn’t tell a stranger anything about this, but Brian cared. I knew he did. I told him the whole story. About me not knowing her, about the drunk driver, about my Grandpa, and about the one thing that I never told anyone about, not even Meg, my best friend. “I’m so sorry to hear about your sister, Sara. That’s too bad.” You see, I had a twin sister when I was younger. She was killed in a car accident, too. Luckily, I was sick and had to stay home with my dad. She went to day care. It had it’s own bus. It was hit by a train coming home that night. “Can you come with me and help me find my mom and Grandpa?” “Sure, I’m really suppost to be resting for my surgery tomorrow, but I’ll rest later. You deserve to have my time, after what you’ve been through.” “You are so friggin nice. I wish I could be more like you,” I said. “I should introduce you to Nick when we go by my room.” “I should introduce you to Meg when we go by the waiting room” “Ok.” We went to Brian’s room and he introduced me to Nick. “Hi, Nick,” I said. “Hi, Sara right?” he seemed nervous for some reason. “Yeah. That’s right. You look more nervous than me Nick! Geez, lighten up a little bit!” “I’m nervous for Brian. What you in for?” I told him about my Grandma. I didn’t feel like he needed to know about her. I hoped that Brian wouldn’t tell him. It was so personal to me. “That’s to bad,” he said. “Why don’t I introduce you to my friend Meg? She’s in the waiting room.” “Ok.”
