Chapter 12

I opened my eyes, I saw Brian, Meg, Amber, Amy, and Lia, all standing around me. In a hospital! “What happened?” I asked. “You fainted,” said Brian. “The doctors already ran tests to see what it was. They didn’t find anything.” “We were so worried! Don’t scare us like that again!” said Meg. “I feel fine. Oh! What time is it! I’ve gotta get home!” “I’d rather be apart from you, than you be hurt. Don’t worry about the time. We’ll figure something out.” Then I saw the clock. 5:13 it said. I still had an hour and a half airplane ride, and a fifteen minute car ride. I was in deep shit. “Can I go home now?” I asked. “We’ll check with the doctors. Come with me Lia,” said Amy. They left to go find the doctor. “I’m gonna find a vending machine! I’m starving,” said Meg. “I’ll go with you,” said Amber. “All you think about is food, isn’t it Meg?” I said. “You bet ‘cha!” They left. Brian came to my side. He started hugging and kissing me. “I was so worried Sara! I thought I might loose you. I can’t live without you baby! Please don’t do that again!” “It’s not like I had a choice!” “I prayed for you! That hour you were out of it, was the longest hour of my life. Even the doctors didn’t know if you would wake up or not!” “It was that bad?” “Of course it was bad!” Tears were pouring down his face. “Did your grandma do that a lot?” “Yeah.” “What did she have.” “They never figured it out.” “What if you have it! What if you die too.” “I’m not gonna die, Brian. I’m fine. Besides my Grandma was old. And why doesn’t my mom have it if it’s hereditary?” “These kinds of things can skip generations! Sara, I’m worried!” Lia and Amy came walking in. A doctor followed them. Brian tryed his hardest, trying not to look like he had been crying. It was such an easy lie to see through though. The doctor said, “Well, we’ve gotten the results of the tests. They’re all negative. So, we don’t know what caused this, and we know you don’t have a lot of other diseases.” “And the point is?” I said. “The point is your better, we don’t know what you have, so we can’t give you medication, so you can just go home.” “Great,” I said. “See Brian. I told you I was fine.” I got back into my regular clothes and was headed out the door and to the airport after finding Meg and Amber hitting on little 2nd graders at the vending machine. It was just like them. Everyone was silent on the way home. Even Brian, for once. I think I scared the shit out of him, without trying to. I, like usual, was the last one to be dropped off. “What am I going to tell my mom?” “Just say it was Megan’s brother dropping you off, and shopping took longer than you thought, because you, um, went to a movie. Yeah, that’ll work.” “Ok, see you.” “See you.” We kissed the longest kiss of my life, so far. “I’ll call you when I hear from him, or I’ll just call you.” “Alright.” I got out, shut the door, when inside, and watched him drive away.
