武漢篇     (Day 0-Day3)  

Day 0 (2/7/2000)  

Today is the last day before I depart for the trip.  Early in the morning, I began my final packing of the luggage.  Clothes, necessities, medicine... make up a total of one large box, and two small bags... ar, quite heavy.  I also bring along with me some books:  The  bridges of Madison county, seven tales from Shakespeare, 徬徨, Cao Yu... 

I'll leave home at 7:30 am tomorrow, so I should sleep earlier this night for a better state prepared for the trip.  As I was having a final check, I discovered that I have a lot of works not finished.  

For example, I've borrowed a book from the U-library, and planned to ask my sister to renew it when the due day comes.  However!!!  I found that it is held by someone and should be returned this month.  At first, I tried to ask Miss fruit for help.  Unfortunately, I couldn't find her and even her mobile was turned off.  Luckily, there is another classmate who is also living near my home.  Thanks, Raymond.  Thanks for your help to return the book for me.  

Eric, remember to call me upon my returning.  I'll have to pay a lunch for you--- remember ar, before you return to the States~~  

Vincent, I type Chinese slowly, so can't send the article to you on time.  I'll try to post it to you or email to you later.  

Larry, what's the progress of your organizing the tutorial centre?  I hope that the reaction of the market to your courses will  be satisfactory. 

Leung X, have you bought your notepad?  I think the Acer one is good enough.  

Primary schoolmates, the open day for our dear mother school will be on 8/7/2000.  remember to go if you have time!  OFPS celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.  There may be some special functions!  Don't miss it~~~ 

Ho, Vincent & Gillian, help me to make the tea gathering of the chess soc. during the O' period after my arrival.  Please help me.  I hope that the ICA-Day will be a success to the club.   

The time for the departure will come ultimately, I am happy with the trip, yet also miss my dear friends in Hong Kong so much, take care, all my friends...  

Day 1 (3-7-2000)  

清晨天氣反覆, 首先來了一陣大驟雨, 之後放晴片刻, 天又再度陰陰的。7:30分, 我乘E23到機場, 路上, 天色依然未見轉好。車子行經陰澳, 意外地看見一道淡淡的天虹, 延綿到海上。  

第一次乘飛機, 選了窗口位,窗外的雲,突然變得那麼近,而且~真實, 比起那一次行山的感覺更奇妙。在雲霧間, 眼前的大千世界變得這樣的小; 只見縱橫交錯的道路網, 夾雜在山峰河帶中 。

抵達武漢的天河機場, 對一切的事物也感到新鮮:香港的電車會沿著路軌行走，這兒卻連公車也要依賴上空的電纜來提供電源；市內的交通燈都裝有一個計時鐘, 告訢我們燈號還會維持多久。

今天的午餐令我印象深刻, 一席麻辣菜, 一室的辣味, 難受極了。

武漢由兩部份組成, 長江以北的武昌及以南的漢口, 兩者以武漢大橋連, 同屬湖北省。到聞名於世的黃鶴樓參觀, 驚見這幢名樓中竟然裝有電梯, 感覺怪怪的:　究竟咱們為了方便遊客而破壞了古建築是不是可取的行為呢?  

晚上我們在勝利飯店下榻。

Day 2 (4-7-2000)

The first image that WuHan gives me is 'hot'. We have been scheduled to visit
lots of places today. They include, WuHan soil mechanics investigation centre,
white-fin dolphin museum, Yellow Crane tower, optical fibre centre and also JiangHan 3rd Bridge.

The visit to the WuHan soil mechanics investigation centre and optical fibre
centre ma... makes me feel miserable. The white-fin dolphin (白鰭豚) only lives in Yangtze River, and there are only about one hundred that kind of dolphin left all over the world, the species is endangered because of the destruction of the habitat. One of those one hundred white-fin dolphin has been caught and put into a pool(even
smaller than the swimming pool), waiting for the tourists to take photos for it,
making money from that. What a pity for the white-fin dolphin~

Yellow Crane Tower ma... well, it is famous and yet it is not really special. The only thing that shocked me was that a lift was installed inside this very famous tower.

JiangHan 3rd Bridge (江漢三橋) is an arch bridge. The two sides of the bridge are not really prosperous. As we were visiting the bridge, I could see that there are many
children swimming in the muddy river, wearing only underwear. What a pity to
those people, I wish that all Chinese can be rich and have a better living
quality.

Going for visits the whole day, and we have booked a bus to bring us to the
destinations. In spite of this, as I go on and off the bus every time, I get
myself wet and dry. The air-conditioners on the bus dried my sweat and the sun
squeezed my sweat out when I get off the bus every time... Very uncomfortable~

This night, I played bowling with Frankie, Jordy, Dick, Angus(=Uncle Yup) and Steve
(=Ar Nok). Angus is very talented by gift in playing bowling, he's got 154 scores
this time, gaining victory over Jordy, who has been playing bowling for several
years.

Day 3 (5-7-2000)

I woke up very early this morning at 630. Today is the last day in the Victory
Hotel. We went to see a model of the three gorges. Some of the people
intentionally put their footprints on the soft sand and I don't think it is
decent.

It's lunchtime. It is better now, less spicy. Unfortunately, there is only one
bottle of soft drink, Coke, and it is not cold...

Right at 100pm, we checked out and set out for the training centre near YiCheong. The riding quality of the road is relatively bad, just like riding on a horse.
Inside the deck, it is very stuffy, though with the air-conditioner turned on. Films are played on the bus, yet they are very old ones, such as the 'God of Eating' and 'God of Gambling 2'. As I slept, I woke up occasionally. The scene outside the car become more 'village' and the traffic lights 'disappeared' gradually.

As we were going from YiCheong to the Gorges, we spent a total of 50 minutes.
The vehicles are even more 'Mongkok van' than Mongkok van. As we were approaching the Gorges, we have to pass through a tunnel. Inside it, the lightings are very dim. Moreover, it is a two-way tunnel with cars running quickly towards each others. It's so...
dangerous.

We came near the gorges and the scene became even more beautiful. Along the two sides of the road are short trees. The riding surface is very wide and the traffic is not very busy. In the sky, there are not any cloud on it. Under the sunlight, I can see very clearly the different layers of the mountains.
The dinner here is quite good, not too irritating.
It is wholesome to sleep and wake up early... Tonight, I slept early at 1:00am...
