The Lonely Siren
by: Mermaid 1997

She sings her song In a loud, clear voice
She knows the danger She has no choice
Her lonliness is much to much
She want's his strong embrace
Although her eyes are clouded with tears
She wants to see his face
So she sings her deadly song
And draws him to his fate
She knows that it is wrong of her
But now it's much to late
As he calls out to her for help
He's ravaged by the sea
But she stays perched upon her rock
And sings her melody.

Now this pic ..

The Temptest

I like this John Waterhouse painting, maybe because it reminds me of how tortorous life can be at times with things so close and yet so far ...

The Temptest

The song of the Sirens call men to abandon themselves, to hurl into the deep, to sprout wings, to transform, to die to self and emerge into a new form with new knowledge and understanding. It is significant that Sirens are creatures of water for water has powerful symbolic value. Water is also a duality, it can sustain life, give comfort and it is a source of life and abundance. Water is the symbol we use for baptism and spiritual rebirth and renewal. It is the primordial soup, it represents purification and regeneration and it is the source from which each of us was born. Water however can also be destructive, causing inundation, drowning, annihilation and death. Sirens and mermaids embody all of these qualities and meanings and are thus symbols of both death and immortality. They call men to the unknown, to change and transformation the essential passage from one space to another, form one condition to another. They serve as escorts during times of transit, danger, transformation, uncertainty, sea voyages and missions of war. Sirens call man, urging him to abandon what he is, to become something new. Fear of Sirens is the fear of upsetting the established equilibrium, fear of the unknown, fear of transformation, fear of learning, fear of losing oneself, fear of being out of control and fear of descending into the deep (the unconscious)

For hundreds of years sailors have talked of seeing a mermaid and her beckoning them to join her. The siren of the sea... That is where the idea for the original mermaid jewelry charm came from.
Do you know what a 'mermaid's necklace' is? Good beachcombers do.
It is actually the egg case of a whelk. There are 70-110 egg cases all attached on a string, like a necklace. Thus the name!

In Ireland there are many legends, stories and folklore of the mermaids, selchies or seal skin people. The first, took place in Northeast Ulster, and her name was Liban.

To be saved from a flood, she was given the body of a salmon. She was eventually baptised by St. Gomgal in the monastery of Bangor.
He gave her the name Murgen, that is 'Sea-born' or Murgelt, i.e. 'Mermaid'. (The Overflowing of Lough Neagh.)

You will find the mermaid on some family crests and shields. The areas of south County Wicklow, Ireland are believed to have been inhabited with mermaids. (the land of the sea-godess).
Irish legend also has it that the manatee is the soul of the mermaid.
